Excursions out-of-lane versus standard deviation of lateral position as outcome measure of the on-the-road driving test.
The traditional outcome measure of the Dutch on-the-road driving test is the standard deviation of lateral position (SDLP), the weaving of the car. This paper explores whether excursions out-of-lane are a suitable additional outcome measure to index driving impairment. ⋯ Excursions out-of-lane are neither a suitable measure to demonstrate driving impairment nor is this measure sufficiently sensitive to differentiate adequately between differences in magnitude of driving impairment.

Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of the safety, pharmacodynamic, and pharmacokinetic effects following oral coadministration of immediate-release morphine with ethanol in healthy male participants.
This paper aimed to evaluate the effects of coadministered immediate-release morphine and ethanol on safety, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic measures. ⋯ Coadministration of single doses of morphine and ethanol tested in this study did not affect the safety, pharmacodynamics, or pharmacokinetics of morphine or ethanol administered alone. Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyChanges in cardiovascular function after venlafaxine but not pregabalin in healthy volunteers: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of orthostatic challenge, blood pressure and heart rate.
It is generally thought that venlafaxine raises blood pressure at higher doses; however, some studies have found no effect or a decrease in blood pressure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular (CV) effects of 3 weeks of dosing with venlafaxine, pregabalin and placebo on young healthy adults. Fifty-four participants, of mean age 23.1 years (sd 4.68), 29 male, were randomised into three parallel groups. ⋯ HR recovery was significantly impaired by venlafaxine. CV changes were observed after only 1 week of dosing at 112.5 mg/day. These effects of venlafaxine are likely to be due to its action of noradrenergic reuptake inhibition.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Controlled Clinical TrialEfficacy of the novel antidepressant agomelatine for anxiety symptoms in major depression.
Anxiety in major depression is associated with increased morbidity. The antidepressant, agomelatine, which acts as an agonist at melatonin MT(1) and MT(2) receptors and as an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT(2C) receptors, has demonstrated efficacy and safety in both major depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Here, we investigated the efficacy of agomelatine in anxious depression. ⋯ Once-a-day oral agomelatine is a new, efficacious alternative option for the treatment of anxiety in patients with major depression.
