Emergency Department Evaluation of Traumatic Brain Injury in the United States, 2009-2010.
To determine the dimensions of traumatic brain injury (TBI) evaluation in US emergency department (EDs) to inform potential application of novel diagnostic tests. ⋯ The ED is the main gateway to medical care for millions of patients evaluated for TBI each year. Novel diagnostic tests are needed to improve ED diagnosis and management of TBI.

Predictors of the On-Road Driving Assessment After Traumatic Brain Injury: Comparing Cognitive Tests, Injury Factors, and Demographics.
(1) To examine the relations between performance on cognitive tests and on-road driving assessment in a sample of persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI). (2) To compare cognitive predictors of the on-road assessment with demographic and injury-related predictors. ⋯ Cognitive tests are not reliable predictors of the on-road driving assessment outcome. Traumatic brain injury severity may be a better predictor of on-road driving; however, further research is needed to identify the best predictors of driving behavior after TBI.

To examine the performance of the Corticosteroid Randomization After Significant Head injury (CRASH) trial prognostic model in older patients with traumatic brain injury. ⋯ The CRASH-CT model may be valid for use in a geriatric population.

Randomized Controlled TrialFeasibility of a Cognitive Behavioral Intervention to Manage Fatigue in Individuals With Traumatic Brain Injury: A Pilot Study.
To evaluate the feasibility of conducting a randomized clinical trial of an Internet-based manualized intervention to teach individuals with traumatic brain injury to manage their fatigue. ⋯ Findings from the study suggest that the MAX intervention is feasible to administer to individuals with post-traumatic brain injury fatigue.

A Dopamine Pathway Gene Risk Score for Cognitive Recovery Following Traumatic Brain Injury: Methodological Considerations, Preliminary Findings, and Interactions With Sex.
With evidence of sexual dimorphism involving the dopamine (DA)-pathway, and the importance of DA pathways in traumatic brain injury (TBI) recovery, we hypothesized that sex × DA-gene interactions may influence cognition post-TBI. ⋯ A sex-specific DA-pathway GRS may be a valuable tool when predicting cognitive recovery post-TBI. Future work should validate these findings and explore how DA-pathway genetics may guide therapeutic intervention.
