Spatial and Temporal Trends of Number of Deaths Attributable to Ambient PM2.5 in the Korea.
We aimed to evaluate the spatial and temporal trends of the health burden attributable to particulate matter less than 2.5 µm in diameter (PM2.5) in the metropolitan cities and provinces of the Korea. ⋯ Our findings show that further actions to improve air quality in Korea would substantially improve the health burden due to particulate matter.

The Prognostic Value of CD8+ and CD45RO+ T Cells Infiltration and Beclin1 Expression Levels for Early Postoperative Cholangitis of Biliary Atresia Patients after Kasai Operation.
Postoperative cholangitis is a common but severe complication after Kasai portoenterostomy for biliary atresia (BA). This study aimed to identify its prognostic factors. ⋯ Our findings demonstrated the CD8+ cells, CD45RO+ cells and Beclin1 level possessed the prognostic value for early postoperative cholangitis following Kasai operation, which may be helpful to develop new prevention and treatment strategies for postoperative cholangitis.

Radon Exposure-induced Genetic Variations in Lung Cancers among Never Smokers.
Lung cancer in never smokers (LCINS) differs etiologically and clinically from lung cancer attributed to smoking. After smoking, radon exposure is the second leading cause and the primary risk factor of lung cancer among never smokers. Exposure to radon can lead to genetic and epigenetic alterations in tumor genomes affecting genes and pathways involved in lung cancer development. The present study sought to explore genetic alterations associated with LCINS exposed to radon gas indoors. ⋯ We identified that CHD4 rs74790047, TSC2 rs2121870, and AR rs66766408 are found to be common exonic mutations in both lung cancer patients and normal individuals exposed to radon indoors. Further analysis is needed to determine whether these genes are completely responsible for LCINS exposed to residential radon.

Estimation of Cancer Incidence and Mortality Risks Attributed to Diagnostic Medical Radiation Exposure in Korea, 2013.
Radiation exposure from medical procedures has been rapidly increasing. We purposed to estimate the fraction of cancer incidence and mortality attributed to diagnostic medical radiation exposure in Korea. ⋯ The estimated PAF for diagnostic medical radiation in Korea in 2013 was higher than those reported in the UK in 2004. Optimized management of diagnostic medical radiation use is important in Korea.
