Alendronate-Anionic Clay Nanohybrid for Enhanced Osteogenic Proliferation and Differentiation.
Alendronate (AL), a drug for inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone-resorption, was intercalated into an inorganic drug delivery nanovehicle, layered double hydroxide (LDH), to form a new nanohybrid, AL-LDH, with 1:1 heterostructure along the crystallographic C-axis. Based on the intercalation reaction strategy, the present AL-LDH drug delivery system (DDS) was realized with an enhanced drug efficacy of AL, which was confirmed by the improved proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of osteoblast-like cells (MG63). ⋯ The present AL-LDH could be considered as a promising DDS for improving efficacy of AL.

ReviewStudy Design for the 2016 Baseline Survey of a Health System Strengthening Project in Quoc Oai District, Hanoi, Vietnam.
In order to provide essential scientific evidence on the population's health status and social health determinants as well as the current capacity of the health care system in Vietnam to health policy makers and managers, Vietnam Ministry of Health, Hanoi University of Public Health, Hanoi Medical University, and Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy collaborated with Seoul National University (Korea) and conducted a health system survey in the Quoc Oai district (of Hanoi capital) that represented northern rural Vietnam. ⋯ This study design description provides the basic information about a baseline survey of a future prospective cohort (as a part of a collaborative project on strengthening the health system in Vietnam) to the prospective data user of this survey.

Psychiatric Symptoms and Clinical Diagnosis in High School Students Exposed to the Sewol Ferry Disaster.
Two hundred and fifty 11th grade students and teachers from Danwon High School drowned, during a school trip, in the Sewol Ferry Disaster. The goal of this study was to investigate the experiences of the psychiatrists who volunteered and provided psychiatric services to the students at Danwon High School. ⋯ During the acute aftermath of the Sewol Ferry Disaster, volunteer psychiatrists were able to provide services. These services included psychiatric assessments, crisis counseling, psychological first aid, and referrals for ongoing care. More than half of the students were perceived to have a psychiatric diagnosis, and a substantial proportion of students needed further treatment. Future research should focus on the short- and long-term effects of psychiatric interventions and the characterization of post-disaster mental health needs and service provision patterns.

Acute Cholecystitis in Elderly Patients after Hip Fracture: a Nationwide Cohort Study.
Because acute cholecystitis in elderly hip fracture is not easily distinguishable from other gastrointestinal symptoms and involves atypical clinical behaviors, it may not be diagnosed in the early stage. However, the exact incidences could not be reported. We utilized data from a nationwide claims database and attempted to assess the incidence of acute cholecystitis in elderly hip fracture patients and how cholecystitis affects mortality rates after hip fracture. ⋯ Incidence of acute cholecystitis in elderly patients after hip fracture within 30 days after the index date was 0.24%. Acute cholecystitis in elderly hip fracture patients dramatically increases the 30-day mortality rate by 4.35-fold. Therefore, early disease detection and management are crucial for patients.

Neonatal Outcomes of Very Low Birth Weight Infants in Korean Neonatal Network from 2013 to 2016.
This study was performed to determine survival and morbidity rates in very low birth weight infants (VLBWIs) in the Korean Neonatal Network (KNN), and to compare neonatal outcomes with those in other countries. ⋯ Despite overall improvements in neonatal outcomes, the survival and morbidity rates of more immature infants with GA 22-27 weeks need further improvement. Therefore, it would be necessary to develop more optimal treatment strategies and perform more active quality improvement to further improve neonatal outcomes of VLBWIs in Korea.
