Observational StudyPrognostic Value of Estimated Plasma Volume Status in Patients With Sepsis.
In patients with sepsis, timely risk stratification is important to improve prognosis. Although several clinical scoring systems are currently being used to predict the outcome of sepsis, but they all have certain limitations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of estimated plasma volume status (ePVS) in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with sepsis or septic shock. ⋯ The ePVS was correlated with the amount of intravenous fluid resuscitation and may be used as a simple and novel prognostic factor in patients with sepsis or septic shock who are admitted to the ICU.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Local Anesthetics With or Without Steroids in High-Volume Transforaminal Epidural Blocks for Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Controlled Trial.
Lumbar transforaminal epidural block (TFEB) is an effective treatment modality for radicular pain due to lumbar disc herniation (LDH). The addition of steroids is more effective than local anesthetic alone in TFEBs for patients with LDH. Moreover, the efficacy of TFEBs has been reported to be positively correlated with the volume of injectate. We hypothesized that high-volume TFEBs without steroids effectively alleviate axial back and radicular pain associated with LDH. This study compared the efficacy of high-volume TFEBs with vs. without steroids for the management of the axial and radicular pain caused by LDH. ⋯ High-volume TFEBs with and without steroid administration yielded similar significant pain reductions and functional improvements among LDH patients 4 weeks after the procedure.

Short Term Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination in Children in Korea.
The epidemiology of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has changed continuously throughout the pandemic. ⋯ Therefore, policies for clinical support for an increase in COVID-19 cases among young children and age-specific preventive measures are needed.

Art in medicine, especially in anatomy, is the creative expression of the structural form of life, specifically life as manifested in human anatomy. Artists and anatomists together produced images of the body that combined medical knowledge and an artistic vision. In Korea, the pioneer of artistic anatomy was Lee Quede (1913-1965). ⋯ Kume handed over his lectures to Nishida, and Lee Quede learned from Nishida. Thereafter, Lee Quede's anatomical knowledge was based on the French artistic anatomy of the 19th century, succeeded by Kume and Nishida. Lee Quede's drawing notes are valuable documents for assessing the influence of Japanese artistic anatomy on Korean artistic anatomy.
