To describe the design, activity, and quality of the referral refinement phase of a novel glaucoma shared-care scheme. ⋯ This referral refinement process can reduce numbers of false-positive referrals attending the hospital glaucoma service while retaining a relatively high level of examination quality.

Instilling eye drops is a ubiquitous procedure in eye clinics. This audit aimed to assess the risk of contamination of disposable droppers and to quantify the financial and waste implications of reducing this risk to zero by using disposable droppers only once. ⋯ Reducing the risk of dropper contamination and subsequent cross infection has financial and environmental costs. As exposure to coagulase-negative staphylococcus is not necessarily associated with infection, it would be useful to decide acceptable risk levels for a given cost to maximise both cost-effectiveness and patient safety.

To compare the ocular trauma score (OTS) and the classification and regression tree (CART) as prognostic models of visual outcome after open globe injury. ⋯ We identified several factors that can help in deciding on the prognostic value of primary globe repair. Both the OTS and CART had high predictive accuracy, but the OTS had higher prognostic accuracy and could be used in counselling patients and in management decision-making.

To report corneal endothelial cell loss and in vivo visualization of the Ahmed glaucoma valve implant in eyes with refractory glaucoma. ⋯ Corneal endothelial cell loss occurs following Ahmed valve implant surgery, this appears to be multifactorial. AS-OCT and HRT II are promising methods for the follow-up of patients with a glaucoma drainage device.
