Disparities in healthcare outcomes between races have been extensively described; however, studies fail to characterize the contribution of differences in distribution of covariates between groups and the impact of discrimination. This study aims to characterize the degree to which clinicodemographic factors and unmeasured confounders are contributing to any observed disparities between non-Hispanic white and black males on surgical outcomes after major urologic cancer surgery. ⋯ This article is part of a supplement entitled African American Men's Health: Research, Practice, and Policy Implications, which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

This manuscript highlights initial activities from a 5-year project to build a community coalition focused on the promotion of family, school, and community connectedness; academic investment; and social and emotional well-being among black male youth and their families, as well as the prevention and reduction of risk behaviors. The American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7 includes seven metrics of ideal cardiovascular health to target for cardiovascular disease prevention. This study determined the relationship between Life's Simple 7 and incident peripheral artery disease in a biracial cohort of middle- and older-aged adults. ⋯ Better cardiovascular health, as defined by higher Life's Simple 7 score, is associated with a substantially lower risk of peripheral artery disease.

Providers can help clients achieve their personal reproductive goals by providing high-quality, client-centered contraceptive counseling. Given the individualized nature of contraceptive decision making, provider attention to clients' preferences for counseling interactions can enhance client centeredness. The objective of this systematic review was to summarize the evidence on what preferences clients have for the contraceptive counseling they receive. ⋯ This article is part of a theme issue entitled Updating the Systematic Reviews Used to Develop the U.S. Recommendations for Providing Quality Family Planning Services, which is sponsored by the Office of Population Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
