How do expatriate health workers cope with needs to provide palliative care in humanitarian emergency assistance? A qualitative study with in-depth interviews.
Given the worldwide increase of chronic diseases, expatriate health workers on assignment with humanitarian emergency organisations can face more clinical situations that require advanced pain control or palliative care. Multiple reasons can prevent the provision of this care. ⋯ Pain control and palliative care needs occur during clinical practice in emergency humanitarian assistance. Training for expatriate health workers should be improved. Humanitarian organisations should strengthen their capacity to provide pain control and palliative care by developing and applying adapted guidelines.

A qualitative exploration of patient and healthcare professionals' views and experiences of palliative rehabilitation during advanced lung cancer treatment.
Limited evidence exists on the impact of palliative rehabilitation during systemic treatment of advanced cancer. ⋯ Patients described personal benefits associated with setting their own goals for physical activity and dietary intake. Healthcare professionals who initially expressed a negative or indifferent stance towards palliative rehabilitation, displayed a mind-set change and were keen to explore further opportunities to expand the evidence base.

Communicating end-of-life care goals and decision-making among a multidisciplinary geriatric inpatient rehabilitation team: A qualitative descriptive study.
In geriatric inpatient rehabilitation settings, where the goal is to optimise function, providing end-of-life care can be challenging. ⋯ Clinicians reported difficulties recognising patient deterioration towards death. Uncertainty and inconsistent communication among clinicians about patient deterioration negatively impacted team understanding, decision-making, and patient and family communication. Further education for all members of the multidisciplinary team focusing on how to recognise and communicate impending death will aid multidisciplinary teams to provide quality end-of-life care when required.
