To assess the quality and readability of thyroplasty information available on the Internet. ⋯ Thyroplasty information available online is of suboptimal quality and written at a level too difficult for the average American adult to read comfortably. Major Web sites have higher quality information but are more difficult to read. Professional Web sites are also more difficult to read than patient-targeted Web sites.

Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who are treated with hemodialysis (HD) frequently complain about hoarseness after completion of each HD session. The HD treatment affects laryngeal volume and muscle function. This study attempted to evaluate the vocal effect of HD by acoustic and aerodynamic analysis and to determine the difference between voice change group (VCG) and nonvoice change group (NVCG). ⋯ The NVCG group of patient displayed improvement in NHR, whereas the VCG group showed no change. Weight change did not significantly correlate with the voice analysis results.

Case Reports
Neurogenic vocal fold motion impairment after routine intubation for tonsillectomy in a pediatric patient.
Vocal fold motion impairment is a rare complication of general anesthesia and is more common in older patients undergoing longer duration of anesthesia. We present a case of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) axonotmesis in a 16-year-old patient undergoing general anesthesia for tonsillectomy. ⋯ This case demonstrates RLN axonotmesis after brief routine intubation. The presumed mechanism of injury is compression of the nerve between the thyroid cartilage and the arytenoid or cricoid cartilage. The use of an oral RAE endotracheal tube may have contributed to the injury owing to the short distance between the bend of the tube and the cuff, placing the cuff at a higher level within the airway.

To characterize the voice and vocal fold function of an individual, it is essential to evaluate vocal fold vibration. The most widely used method for this purpose has been videolaryngoscopy. ⋯ The combination of the high-speed technology with the proposed method improves the vocal fold analysis given a numerical feedback through graphical representation of the real vibratory patterns of the folds.

This study aims to find a correlation between vocal fold polyps and sulcus vocalis and to investigate the character of such vocal fold polyps associated with sulcus vocalis. ⋯ When dealing with patients who have been diagnosed as vocal fold polyps, the possibility of coexisting sulcus vocalis should always be considered, and if diagnosed simultaneously, management of vocal polyps and sulcus vocalis must be sought for a better voice outcome and to reduce the chance of recurrence of vocal polyps.
