Are altered smooth pursuit eye movements related to chronic pain and disability following whiplash injuries? A prospective trial with one-year follow-up.
To evaluate the ability of early smooth pursuit testing to predict chronic whiplash-associated disorders, and to study whether the presence of abnormal smooth pursuit eye movements at one-year follow-up is associated with symptoms at that time. ⋯ Although reduced smooth pursuit performance at one-year follow-up was associated with persistent neck pain, smooth pursuit eye movement tests are not useful as predictive or diagnostic tests in whiplash-associated disorders.

Randomized Controlled TrialShort- and long-term outcome of constraint-induced movement therapy after stroke: a randomized controlled feasibility trial.
Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) is a method to improve motor function in the upper extremity following stroke. The aim of this trial was to determine the effect and feasibility of CIMT compared with traditional rehabilitation in short and long term. ⋯ CIMT seems to be an effective and feasible method to improve motor function in the short term, but no long-term effect was found.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of exercise on adrenocortical responsiveness of patients with chronic low back pain, controlled for psychological strain.
To investigate the effects of high-intensity aerobic exercise on adrenocortical responsiveness and on standard outcome measures in patients with chronic low back pain. ⋯ Exercise alleviated pain, functional disability and anxiety/depression, also improved adrenocortical responsiveness in patients with chronic low back pain with dexamethasone suppression test positive values.

Short-term effects on mobility, activities of daily living and health-related quality of life of a Conductive Education programme for adults with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and stroke.
To evaluate the impact of 10 sessions of Conductive Education on mobility, functional independence and health-related quality of life in adults with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and stroke. ⋯ The results emphasize potential benefits of Conductive Education for individuals with stroke. The results will inform further randomized comparisons of the effects of Conductive Education in neurologically disabled people.

Randomized Controlled TrialPrevention of pulmonary complications after upper abdominal surgery by preoperative intensive inspiratory muscle training: a randomized controlled pilot study.
To investigate the feasibility and effects of preoperative inspiratory muscle training on the incidence of atelectasis in patients at high risk of postoperative pulmonary complications scheduled for elective abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery. ⋯ Preoperative inspiratory muscle training is well tolerated and appreciated and seems to reduce the incidence of atelectasis in patients scheduled for elective abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.
