Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialIntra-articular triamcinolone acetonide injection in patients with capsulitis of the shoulder: a comparative study of two dose regimens.
Although corticosteroid injections have been reported to be effective in capsulitis of the shoulder, the optimal dose has not been established. The purpose of this study was to compare relief of symptoms following a lower dose with that following a higher dose of triamcinolone acetonide given intra-articularly. ⋯ The study shows that in the treatment of frozen shoulder greater symptom relief is obtained with a dose of 40 mg triamcinolone acetonide intra-articularly than with a dose of 10 mg. The effect on pain and sleep disturbance was more marked than on ROM. Intra-articular injections with triamcinolone acetonide appear to be an effective method to obtain symptom relief for patients with painful capsulitis of the shoulder.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialEarly supported hospital discharge following acute stroke: pilot study results.
To establish the feasibility and method of evaluation of an early supported hospital discharge policy for patients with acute stroke. ⋯ An early supported discharge service following acute stroke with individualized rehabilitation in the community is feasible and can be evaluated by a randomized controlled trial but a larger multicentre trial is needed before such a service is widely adopted.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialThe effects of common peroneal stimulation on the effort and speed of walking: a randomized controlled trial with chronic hemiplegic patients.
To measure the effect of the Odstock Dropped Foot Stimulator (ODFS), a common peroneal stimulator, on the effort and speed of walking. ⋯ Walking was statistically significantly improved when the ODFS was worn but no 'carry-over' was measured. Physiotherapy alone, in this group of subjects with established stroke, did not improve walking.

Clinical TrialEvaluation of a shortened version of the Abbreviated Mental Test in a series of elderly patients.
To determine whether a shortened version of the Abbreviated Mental Test is as effective as the Abbreviated Mental Test (AMT) itself in assessing cognition in elderly patients. ⋯ The AMT4 may be useful in the initial assessment of cognition in elderly patients, with little loss of accuracy in detecting marked cognitive impairment when compared to the AMT.
