Impact of Therapeutic Music Listening on Intensive Care Unit Patients: A Pilot Study.
This pilot study investigated the association between patient-specific, therapeutic music listening as a nursing intervention for mechanically ventilated patients, and the proportion of time those patients were considered to have intensive care unit delirium. The pilot study used the person-centered nursing framework as its theoretic foundation. Findings from an intimate prospective cohort design encourage an expanded look at potential benefits of therapeutic music listening in large, multisite, randomized clinical trials. Research and practice implications are discussed.

Transgender individuals are at an increased risk of experiencing health inequalities, such as anxiety, depression, and HIV. It is important that providers and staff in the health care setting are prepared to care for this population to ensure best patient outcomes. ⋯ Developing an understanding of potential gender-affirming treatments and surgeries also optimizes patient care. Improving the quality care will reduce health disparities commonly faced by the transgender population.

ReviewEvaluation of Telemetry Utilization on Medical-Surgical Units.
Alarm fatigue is the most common contributing factor in alarm-related sentinel events. Researchers have demonstrated a 35% overuse of telemetry, a key factor in alarm fatigue. ⋯ Practice patterns were reviewed to determine if they aligned with the American Heart Association evidence-based practice guidelines for telemetry monitoring and whether the order indication was congruent with the patient's clinical status. Nurse's attitudes and practices related to alarm safety were evaluated.

ReviewImpact of Nurse-Led Interprofessional Rounding on Patient Experience.
Interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) was recommended to improve siloed and fragmented patient care. The Institute of Medicine recommended nurses lead this change through innovative models of patient-centered care and IPCP participation. ⋯ Outcomes were analyzed using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores to examine patient experience. Postimplementation results demonstrate an increase in HCAHPS patient experience scores for this patient population above hospital and national average.

ReviewImpaired Mobility and Functional Decline in Older Adults: Evidence to Facilitate a Practice Change.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services report nearly 55% of Medicare beneficiaries older than 85 experience impaired mobility and nearly 28% (n = 671,833) of these individuals have difficulty getting help. Impaired mobility is a precursor to disability, which has notable clinical significance and importance to older adults. Using case exemplars of older adults who have experienced a "serious" fall, along with evidence-based research, the physical, psychosocial, emotional, and clinical consequences are discussed, along with assessment parameters and interventions for maximizing function and early mobility.
