The Flexor Pollicis Longus Reflex: Interrater and Intrarater Reliability in Comparison With Established Muscle Stretch Reflexes.
The aim of this study was to investigate the interrater reliability and intrarater reliability of the flexor pollicis longus muscle stretch reflex (FPLR) and compare it with clinically established reflexes. ⋯ The Association of Academic Physiatrists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Association of Academic Physiatrists designates this Journal-based CME activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. ReviewNarrative Review of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Rehabilitation of People With Spinal Cord Injury: 2010-2020.
Clinical practice guidelines provide reliable, vetted, and critical information to bring research to practice. Some medical specialties (e.g., physical medicine and rehabilitation) provide multidomain treatment for various conditions. This presents challenges because physical medicine and rehabilitation is a small specialty, a diverse patient base in terms sociodemographics and diagnosis, treatments are difficult to standardize, and rehabilitation research is underfunded. ⋯ Nine articles had no recorded vetting process but addressed rehabilitation as an outcome and were included separately. Many of the clinical practice guidelines were developed without evidence from randomized controlled trials, one had input from stakeholders, and some are out of date and do not address important aspects of changes in demographics of the affected population and the use of newer technologies such as sensors and robotics and devices. Identification of these gaps may help stimulate treatment that is clinically relevant, accessible, and current.

How We Assess Spatial Neglect Matters: Prevalence of Spatial Neglect as Measured by the Catherine Bergego Scale and Impact on Rehabilitation Outcomes.
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and functional impact of unilateral spatial neglect on right hemisphere stroke patients in an inpatient rehabilitation facility using a multidimensional, functionally based behavioral measure (Catherine Bergego Scale [CBS]). Case ReportsDorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation for Treatment of Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathy: A Case Report.
Chemotherapy-induced neuropathy has limited treatment options, and conventional medications used to treat neuropathic pain often do not provide adequate pain relief for patients with a history of cancer. Neuromodulation such as dorsal root ganglion stimulation remains a treatment that has been studied for chronic painful conditions such as low back pain, pelvic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and phantom limb pain. Dorsal root ganglion stimulation has been presented for treatment of chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, but with limited duration of follow-up. ⋯ After failure of conservative pharmacotherapies, a 7-day dorsal root ganglion stimulation trial was implanted, resulting in 100% pain relief. A dorsal root ganglion stimulation was then implanted permanently, and our patient reported continued resolution of symptoms at evaluation 3 yrs after placement. To the author's knowledge, this is the first case of sustained relief with dorsal root ganglion stimulation placement for chemotherapy-induced neuropathy and presents a treatment option that warrants further investigation.
