Randomized Controlled TrialSymptom-Based Treatment of Neuropathic Pain in Spinal Cord-Injured Patients: A Randomized Crossover Clinical Trial.
The objective of this study was to identify the differences in medication effect according to pain characteristics in spinal cord-injured patients. ⋯ In summary, the phenotype of neuropathic pain was associated with the efficacy of different pharmacologic treatments. Symptom-based treatment, therefore, can lead to more efficient analgesia.

Comparative StudyOpen-Design Collar vs. Conventional Philadelphia Collar Regarding User Satisfaction and Cervical Range of Motion in Asymptomatic Adults.
The current study aimed to compare the Philadelphia collar and an open-design cervical collar with regard to user satisfaction and cervical range of motion in asymptomatic adults. ⋯ Based on the data of the 72 subjects presented in this study, the open-design collar adequately immobilized the cervical spine as a semirigid collar and was considered cosmetically acceptable, at least for subjects aged younger than 30 yrs.

Case ReportsProgressive Paraplegia from Spinal Cord Stimulator Lead Fibrotic Encapsulation: A Case Report.
Ten years after placement of a spinal cord stimulator (SCS) and resolution of pain, this patient presented with progressive paraplegia, worsening thoracic radicular pain at the same dermatome level of the electrodes, and bowel and bladder incontinence. Computed tomographic myelogram confirmed thoracic spinal cord central canal stenosis at the level of electrodes. ⋯ Only one other case has been reported in Madrid, Spain. Patients with SCS presenting with loss of pain relief, new-onset radicular or neuropathic pain in same dermatome(s) as SCS electrodes, worsening neuromuscular examination, or new bladder or bowel incontinence need to be evaluated for complications regarding SCS implantation causing spinal stenosis and subsequent cord compression to avoid permanent neurologic deficits.

Long-Term Functioning of Patients with Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A 4-yr Follow-up Study.
The aim was to study changes over time for multiple outcomes based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and to compare long-term outcomes with norms. ⋯ Many patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage had fairly good long-term outcomes, but problems in executive functioning, mood, and fatigue still exist at long-term follow-up.

Comparative StudySleep Transcutaneous vs. End-Tidal CO2 Monitoring for Patients with Neuromuscular Disease.
This study compared transcutaneous carbon dioxide partial pressure (PtcCO2) and end-tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure (PetCO2) monitoring during sleep for patients with neuromuscular disease. ⋯ Maximum PtcCO2 was significantly greater than maximum PetCO2 for both groups and, therefore, tends to be higher than PetCO2 in this population. This should be taken into consideration when assessing patients for sleep hypoventilation.
