The association of trends in charcoal-burning suicide with Google search and newspaper reporting in Taiwan: a time series analysis.
Some East/Southeast Asian countries have experienced a rapid increase in suicide by charcoal burning over the past decade. Media reporting and Internet use were thought to contribute to the epidemic. We investigated the association between method-specific suicide incidence and both Internet search volume and newspaper reporting in Taiwan. ⋯ We found that increased Internet searches for charcoal-burning suicide appeared to be associated with a subsequent increase in suicide by this method. The prevention of suicide using emerging methods may include monitoring and regulating online information that provides details of these methods as well as encouraging Internet service providers to provide help-seeking information.

Violence at work and depressive symptoms in primary health care teams: a cross-sectional study in Brazil.
Implementation of primary care has long been a priority in low- and middle-income countries. Violence at work may hamper progress in this field. Hence, we examined the associations between violence at work and depressive symptoms/major depression in primary care teams (physicians, nurses, nursing assistants, and community health workers). ⋯ Primary care workers presenting depressive symptoms and those who have experienced violence at work should be assisted. Policy makers should prioritize strategies to prevent these problems, since they can threaten primary care sustainability.

Predicting time to emergency department return for anxiety disorders and acute stress reactions in children and adolescents: a cohort study.
While studies indicate that few children with anxiety disorders receive specialized mental health care, significant knowledge gaps exist for the mental health care trajectory outside of specialized care. We examined whether physician-based care after an emergency department (ED) visit for mental health care predicted time to ED return. ⋯ Following an index visit, ED return by children with anxiety disorders or acute stress reactions is associated with specific characteristics of subsequent physician visits. Improving physician use of evidence-based treatment and family access to coordinated services may reduce costly hospital-based care.

Subjective experiences of illness recovery in individuals treated for first-episode psychosis.
Individuals with psychotic disorders identify several parallel dimensions of recovery as being important, including illness related, personal and social domains. Learning how patients deal with the experience of psychosis and recovery early in the course of illness may provide insights for improvement of early intervention services. The primary aim of the present research is to explore experiences related to recovery for individuals receiving services following a first episode of psychosis (FEP) in a specialized early intervention (SEI) program and to examine key turning points that shape such recovery. ⋯ Differences in illness acceptance trajectories and the turning points within such trajectories have important implications for understanding psychological adjustment to the experience of psychosis, its diagnosis and treatment. These findings underline the importance of assisting individuals with the construction of meaning following the initial illness experience.

Nonmedical prescription drug use among US young adults by educational attainment.
Little is known about nonmedical use of prescription drugs among non-college-attending young adults in the United States. ⋯ There is a need for young adult prevention and intervention programs to target nonmedical prescription drug use beyond college campuses.
