Multicenter StudyFactors related to physical functioning decline after cardiac surgery in older patients: A multicenter retrospective study.
As few studies have examined physical functioning changes after cardiac surgery, the factors related to the decline in physical functioning remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the factors related to physical functioning decline after cardiac surgery in older patients. ⋯ Physical functioning declined in 17% of patients after surgery. The decline could be predicted by several clinical factors, including some that are modifiable. These results suggest that further interventional research on rehabilitation before and after cardiac surgery for older patients might help overcome the decline in physical functioning.

Evaluation of objective nutritional indexes as predictors of one-year outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
Objective nutritional indexes have been shown to predict prognoses in some clinical settings. We aimed to investigate the prognostic values of these indexes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). ⋯ The CONUT score and PNI are associated with 1-year clinical outcomes especially with 1-year all-cause mortality in patients undergoing TAVI. Moreover, the CONUT score and PNI might have better predictive values than GNRI.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyCryoablation for paroxysmal and persistent AF in patients with structural heart disease and preserved ejection fraction: Clinical outcomes from 1STOP, a multicenter observational project.
Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is an accepted strategy for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) and persistent AF (PerAF) ablation. Limited data are available on outcomes of cryoballoon (CB) PVI in patients with structural heart disease (SHD). The purpose is to assess the clinical efficacy of a single CB-PVI procedure in patients with PAF or PerAF who also have SHD. ⋯ clinicaltrials.gov (NCT01007474).

Observational StudyPrognostic impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on adverse prognosis in hospitalized heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction - A report from the JASPER registry.
The prognostic impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) patients and its clinical characteristics have not yet been fully examined. ⋯ COPD is associated with adverse prognosis in hospitalized patients with HFpEF.

Observational StudySuccessful screening of sleep-disordered breathing using a pacemaker-based algorithm in Japan.
Recent pacemakers with transthoracic impedance sensors have a specific algorithm identifying sleep apnea (SA). Our aim was to evaluate the algorithm in Japanese patients. ⋯ The pacemaker-based algorithm is a useful screening tool for SA in Japanese individuals, especially in the severe SA group, apnea-dominant group, and CSA-dominant group.
