Primary fascial closure during laparoscopic ventral hernia repair does not reduce 30-day wound complications.
Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR) is associated with decreased wound morbidity compared to open repair. It remains unclear whether primary fascial closure (PFC) offers any benefit in reducing postoperative seroma compared to bridged repair. We hypothesized that PFC would have no effect on seroma formation following LVHR. ⋯ PFC does not decrease the risk of short-term wound complications. Given that prior studies have also suggested no difference in hernia recurrence, PFC does not appear to improve postoperative outcomes for patients undergoing LVHR.

The intraoperative identification of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) is of utmost importance to drive their laparoscopic resection. Near-infrared (NIR) surgery has emerged as a new technique for localizing tumors or neoplastic tissue. This study aimed to explore the results of the application of NIR in the laparoscopic resection of PanNETs. ⋯ This explorative study shows that NIR with ICG can have a role in laparoscopic pancreatic resection of PanNETs. Further studies are needed to assess the proper setting and role of this new and promising technology.

Previous studies reported that laparoscopic surgery (LPS) improved postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing colorectal surgery within an enhanced recovery program (ERP). However, the effect of minimally invasive surgery on each ERP item has not been clarified, yet. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of LPS on adherence to ERP items and recovery as measured by time to readiness for discharge (TRD). ⋯ The present study showed that a successful laparoscopic procedure had an independent role to increase the adherence to postoperative ERP and to improve short-term postoperative outcome.

To investigate the safety and feasibility of totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in the distal gastrectomy with D2 dissection for gastric cancer. We also summarized the preliminary experience of totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis. ⋯ The totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in distal gastrectomy with lymph node dissection for gastric cancer is safe and feasible, with a very low rate of recanalization and reflux gastritis.

Laparoscopic liver re-resection is feasible for patients with posthepatectomy hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence: a propensity score matching study.
Liver re-resection plays a paramount role in treatment of patients with posthepatectomy hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence. Laparoscopic liver resection has been a feasible alternative to open surgery. However, whether laparoscopic liver re-resection for posthepatectomy HCC recurrence is better than open liver re-resection remains unknown. ⋯ Laparoscopic liver re-resection for patients with posthepatectomy HCC recurrence provided comparable perioperative and oncological outcomes as open liver re-resection and can be a safe alternative to open procedure.
