Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEffect of potassium citrate therapy on stone recurrence and residual fragments after shockwave lithotripsy in lower caliceal calcium oxalate urolithiasis: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the efficacy of potassium citrate treatment in preventing stone recurrences and residual fragments after shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) for lower pole calcium oxalate urolithiasis. ⋯ Potassium citrate therapy significantly alleviated calcium oxalate stone activity after SWL for lower pole stones in patients who were stone free. An important observation was the beneficial effect of medical treatment on stone activity after SWL among patients with residual calculi.

Hand assistance has been a significant advance in making laparoscopy an easier and safer method for certain procedures such as nephrectomy. The value of this technique is realized when comparing patient outcomes (e.g., less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery time) with those of the standard open approaches. One reported disadvantage of the Pneumo Sleeve device for hand-assisted laparoscopy is leakage of CO2 gas from around the ring base. We describe in detail our technique to secure the Pneumo Sleeve to the abdomen in such a way as to prevent leakage of intraperitoneal gas and fluid.

Benefits of ureteroscopic pneumatic lithotripsy for the treatment of impacted ureteral stones.
Although new forms of lithotripsy, such as new-generation shockwave and laser lithotripsies, have recently been developed, the optimal treatment for impacted ureteral stones (IUS) remains controversial. We investigated, retrospectively, the outcome of IUS treated with ureteroscopic pneumatic lithotripsy. ⋯ Impacted ureteral stones can be treated effectively with ureteroscopic pneumatic lithotripsy in both the short and the long term.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialRandomized trial of 10 mL and 20 mL of 2% intraurethral lidocaine gel and placebo in men undergoing flexible cystoscopy.
To determine if 20 mL of 2% intraurethral lidocaine gel is superior to 10 mL of 2% lidocaine or sterile lubricant for flexible cystoscopy in men. ⋯ Instillation of 20 mL or 10 mL of 2% lidocaine gel has no advantage over plain lubricant in providing anesthesia for flexible cystoscopy in men.
