To observe and report the clinical results of the treatment of intertrochanteric hip fractures treated with a 135-degree hip screw with a two-hole side plate. ⋯ Use of the 135-degree sliding hip screw with a two-hole side plate produces satisfactory healing and results in relatively low blood loss and short surgical times without the loss of side plate fixation.

To assess the functional outcome of multiply injured trauma patients with foot injuries and to determine which outcome measures are most appropriate for this assessment. ⋯ The SF-36, WOMAC, and modified Boston Children's Hospital Grading System are all useful in assessing the outcome of multiply injured patients with foot injuries. The outcome of these patients is poor when using any of these measures. Foot injuries cause significant disability to multiply injured patients. More attention should be given to these injuries, and more aggressive management should be considered to improve the outcome of this group of multiply injured patients.

This study was designed to determine the angle off the perpendicular to the lateral calcaneal wall at which a screw would need to be angled to avoid entering the subtalar joint medially. It also determined the distance inferior to the articular surface at which a screw would need to be placed to avoid that penetration if the screw was placed perpendicular to the lateral calcaneal wall. ⋯ This study shows that using a lateral approach, it is possible to position internal fixation screws without disrupting the articular surfaces of the medial subtalar joint.

Office removal of tibial external fixators: an evaluation of cost savings and patient satisfaction.
To evaluate the efficacy and patient satisfaction of office removal of tibial external fixators and to compare the cost of this procedure with the cost of removal of fixators in the operating room. ⋯ Due to the cost savings and patient satisfaction, without compromising clinical care, the office is our preferred location for tibial half-pin external fixator removal.
