Evaluation of the quality of the management of cancer of the corpus uteri--selection of relevant quality indicators and implementation in Belgium.
Describe the methodology and selection of quality indicators (QI) to be implemented in the EFFECT (EFFectiveness of Endometrial Cancer Treatment) project. EFFECT aims to monitor the variability in Quality of Care (QoC) of uterine cancer in Belgium, to compare the effectiveness of different treatment strategies to improve the QoC and to check the internal validity of the QI to validate the impact of process indicators on outcome. ⋯ This first Belgian initiative for monitoring the QoC of uterine cancer indicates that the previously used QI selection methodology is reproducible for uterine cancer. The QI list could be applied by other research groups for comparison.

Intraoperative hypothermia during primary surgical cytoreduction for advanced ovarian cancer: risk factors and associations with postoperative morbidity.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the risk factors and potential morbidity associated with intraoperative hypothermia (IH) during cytoreductive surgery (CRS) for advanced ovarian cancer. ⋯ In patients who underwent optimal primary CRS for advanced ovarian cancer, IH alone was not associated with the development of postoperative complications. Postoperative morbidity in these patients is multifactorial and further investigation into modifiable risk factors is warranted.

Histopathology predicts clinical outcome in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and debulking surgery.
To analyze the factors prognostic of survival in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by interval debulking surgery. ⋯ Residual disease of ≥1cm, advanced stage, and the presence of more viable disease in resected specimens are prognostic factors for survival in advanced EOC patients receiving NAC followed by interval debulking surgery.

Patterns of relapse in stage I-II uterine papillary serous carcinoma treated with adjuvant intravaginal radiation (IVRT) with or without chemotherapy.
To evaluate patterns of relapse in early stage uterine papillary carcinoma (UPSC) patients receiving adjuvant intravaginal radiotherapy (IVRT) with or without chemotherapy. ⋯ In stage I-II UPSC patients who predominantly receive adjuvant chemotherapy, IVRT as the sole form of adjuvant RT provides excellent locoregional control. The risk of isolated pelvic recurrence is too low to warrant routine use of external pelvic RT.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEpidural analgesia is associated with an increased incidence of postoperative complications in patients requiring an abdominal hysterectomy for early stage endometrial cancer.
Analgesia and early quality of recovery may be improved by epidural analgesia. We aimed to assess the effect of receiving epidural analgesia on surgical adverse events and quality of life after laparotomy for endometrial cancer. ⋯ Epidural analgesia was associated with an increase in any, but not serious, postoperative complications and length of stay after abdominal hysterectomy. Randomised controlled trials are needed to examine the effect of epidural analgesia on surgical adverse events, especially as the present data do not support a quality of life benefit with epidural analgesia.
