To examine patterns of mortality among climbers on Mount Everest over an 86 year period. ⋯ Debilitating symptoms consistent with high altitude cerebral oedema commonly present during descent from the summit of Mount Everest. Profound fatigue and late times in reaching the summit are early features associated with subsequent death.

To determine the prevalence of depression and anxiety in terminally ill patients pursuing aid in dying from physicians. ⋯ Although most terminally ill Oregonians who receive aid in dying do not have depressive disorders, the current practice of the Death with Dignity Act may fail to protect some patients whose choices are influenced by depression from receiving a prescription for a lethal drug.
