To determine the relationship between central adiposity parameters and autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction. ⋯ In this study, central adiposity and aging were associated with ANS dysfunction in obese individuals. The WC could be a marker of ANS dysfunction in obese individuals without any cardiovascular risk factors. The HRR assessment at a later decay phase could be more valuable for evaluating ANS function than during early recovery.

Throughout history, natural products have played a dominant role in the treatment of human ailments. For example, the legendary discovery of penicillin transformed global existence. Presently, natural products comprise a large portion of current-day pharmaceutical agents, most notably in the area of cancer therapy. ⋯ There are many examples, including dietary phytochemicals such as sulforaphane and phenethyl isothiocyanate (cruciferous vegetables) and resveratrol (grapes and grape products). Overall, natural product research is a powerful approach for discovering biologically active compounds with unique structures and mechanisms of action. Given the unfathomable diversity of nature, it is reasonable to suggest that chemical leads can be generated that are capable of interacting with most or possibly all therapeutic targets.

The aim of this study was to investigate the possible migration of proliferating peripheral retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and their association with differential gene expressions. ⋯ In this study, peripheral RPE cells divided and migrated to the central region. This process was associated with differential gene expressions in these cells.

To evaluate a home-built Java-based program (GFRcalc) to simplify the calculation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) after administration of chromium-51 ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (51Cr-EDTA) for routine clinical use. ⋯ In this study, the fit error that GFRcalc provided for the three-sample GFR offered a simple and reliable method to check the results obtained. This could also allow physicians to assess the reliability of the results and base their decisions on the quality of the measurement.
