Ankle Nerve Block Adjuvant to General Anesthesia Reduces Postsurgical Pain and Improves Functional Outcomes in Hallux Valgus Surgery.
Postoperative pain is a frequent problem after orthopedic procedures like hallux valgus surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether ankle block improves early and mid-term functional outcomes and postoperative pain management after hallux valgus surgery in patients receiving general anesthesia. ⋯ Ankle block added to general anesthesia may improve early and mid-term postoperative functional outcomes and postoperative pain management in patients who undergo hallux valgus surgery.

Clinical and Radiographic Peri-Implant Parameters and Whole Salivary Interleukin-1β and Interleukin-6 Levels among Type-2 Diabetic and Nondiabetic Patients with and without Peri-Implantitis.
The aim was to assess the peri-implant clinical and radiographic parameters and whole salivary levels of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 among type 2 diabetic and nondiabetic patients with and without peri-implantitis. ⋯ Among individuals without diabetes, peri-implant plaque index, bleeding on probing, probing depth, marginal bone loss, and whole salivary IL-1 β and IL-6 levels were higher among patients with peri-implantitis compared to patients without peri-implantitis. Among patients with diabetes, the severity of the measured parameters appears to be influenced by the glycemic status rather than by peri-implantitis.

The aim of the study was to compare characteristics of pain in terms of neuropathic pain (NeP) and to assess the association between the neuropathic component and quality of life (QoL) in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). ⋯ The NeP component was similar between patients with SSc and RA. However, NeP was associated with a heavier burden of disease in patients with RA.

The Relevance of the Second Cesarean Delivery in the Reduction of Institutional Cesarean Delivery Rates.
The cesarean delivery rate has increased worldwide. The aim of our study was to assess the events associated with the second cesarean deliveries in our institution. ⋯ The incidence of repeat cesarean delivery in group B is high, and its reduction should contribute to a lowering of the overall cesarean delivery rate.

Matrix Metalloproteinases-3 Baseline Serum Levels in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients without Initial Radiographic Changes: A Two-Year Ultrasonographic Study.
To investigate the association of high baseline serum levels of metalloproteinases-3 (MMP-3) with structural damage to hand and feet joints, assessed by ultrasonography (US), in patients with early, treatment-naïve rheumatoid arthritis (RA), without initial X-ray-visible erosions, during 24 months follow-up. ⋯ After 2 years of follow-up, US assessment showed a higher number of new bone erosions in MMP-3-positive compared to MMP-3-negative patients with early RA and no visible initial radiographic changes. High baseline levels of MMP-3 predict significantly higher structural damage progression at the level of feet, but not at the level of hand joints.
