Occlusal Caries Detection and Diagnosis Using Visual ICDAS Criteria, Laser Fluorescence Measurements, and Near-Infrared Light Transillumination Images.
Current diagnostic tools for non-cavitated occlusal caries are not very reliable. For this reason, newer systems need to be developed. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of visual inspection (ICDAS-II), laser fluorescence (DIAGNOdent pen), and the near-infrared transillumination technique (DIAGNOcam) in the detection of non-cavitated occlusal caries lesions under clinical and laboratory conditions in 90 third molar teeth planned for extraction. ⋯ DIAGNOcam was found to be the most effective method for the diagnosis of occlusal caries without cavitation in permanent molar teeth.

We aimed to observe the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-[OH] D) and different cognitive domains, and to evaluate the predictive value of 25-(OH) D level for cognitive impairment in patients with white matter lesions (WML). ⋯ We observed that vitamin D deficiency is associated with multiple areas of cognitive impairment and that it is an independent risk factor for cognitive impairment in WML.

The aim of this study was to assess the HLA haplotype frequencies and genetic profiles of the Kuwaiti population. ⋯ Identifying the haplotype diversity in the Kuwaiti population will contribute to the selection of an HLA-match for HSCT, disease associations, pharmacogenomics, and knowledge of pop-ulation HLA diversity.

Coccydynia is a disorder that decreases quality of life with significant functional failure. Extra-corporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is used to treat several painful musculoskeletal disorders. ⋯ In our patient group, ESWT provided effective pain control. In order to evaluate the efficacy of ESWT more accurately and sensitively, prospective randomized studies with longer follow-up periods, in which ESWT is compared with different energy doses and different treatment methods, are needed.

The group of Herreros Fernández developed a new, safe, quick, and successful technique for collecting midstream clean-catch urine(MS-CCU) in newborns based on bladder stimulation and lumbar paravertebral massage maneuvers. The purpose of this study was to compare the contamination rates of catheter specimen urine (CSU) and MS-CCU by a lumbar/sacral stimulation technique in newborns. ⋯ The contamination rate in MS-CCU cultures was two and a half times greater than in the CSU culture samples. Thus, MS-CCU cannot replace the catheter for the diagnosis of UTI.
