Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematological malignancy that arises from the clonal proliferation of immature myeloid cells. Although the number of AML cases has dramatically increased worldwide, information on its prevalence and incidence in Kuwait is lacking. This study reports the incidence of AML and patient demographics in the country from 2014 to 2020, based on the 2016 WHO classification of AML. ⋯ Our study may help predict the future trends of AML in Kuwait to help improve clinical management and patient outcomes.

Effect of Phentermine on Hepatic Steatosis in Bariatric Surgery: A Pilot Study.
Hepatic steatosis is associated with increased surgical complications in bariatric surgery patients. We aimed to evaluate the effect of phentermine in reducing hepatic steatosis, adipose tissue, and surgical complications in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. ⋯ Phentermine decreased the proportion of individuals with hepatic steatosis by 19% and promoted a more significant fat mass loss in kilograms among candidates for bariatric surgery.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in governments implementing new regulations to divert healthcare resources, which in return led to the postponement of elective and semi-elective surgical procedures. Therefore, many surgeons and as well as surgeons in training reported feeling redundant, which eventually resulted in psychological distress. This study aimed to assess the sociodemographic differences in the psychological impact resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and outline the effect it had on surgical training. ⋯ The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative association with the psychological well-being of a significant proportion of surgeons and associated surgical training programs.

Pediatric Crohn's disease (CD) has a more aggressive phenotype and course than in adults. Many patients develop complications that require surgery. The aim of this study was to identify the factors associated with increased risk for surgical intervention in pediatric patients with CD. ⋯ Females with B2 or B2B3 or the presence of perianal disease at diagnosis are at a higher risk for surgery and should be considered for more aggressive medical treatments.

Malnutrition is associated with cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. Arrhythmias may be the cardiac consequences of malnutrition. ⋯ Poor nutritional status, assessed by PNI and CONUT score, is associated with arrhythmic events on 24-h ECG Holter recording in patients without manifested arrhythmia.
