To evaluate the relationship between the occurrence of priapism and important steady-state clinical and laboratory parameters in homozygous sickle cell disease (SCD). ⋯ About 1 in 4 of all homozygous older SCD patients had priapism, and an approximately similar ratio developed erectile dysfunction; they also had lower steady-state leucocyte counts. Other clinical and laboratory indicators of disease severity in SCD did not positively correlate with the occurrence of priapism, and this may imply an alternative pathogenetic mechanism.

To analyze the coronary angiograms of patients with symptomatic heart disease in order to determine the frequency and characteristics of coronary-cameral communications (CCCs) in a single center. ⋯ The prevalence of CCCs in adult patients was low and that of large coronary fistulas was even lower; coronary fistulas are probably very rare in adult patients because the majority of them are detected and treated during childhood.

The purpose of this experimental study was to evaluate the efficacy of hesperidin (HES) in protecting against methotrexate (MTX)-induced intestinal damage using histopathological and immunohistochemical techniques. ⋯ HES seemed to have a protective effect against MTX-induced intestinal injury.

To analyze the long-term outcomes of anterior versus posterior approaches for cervical disc herniation. ⋯ The better long-term results with the posterior operation might be due to the more complete opening of the foramen for neural decompression at the time of the operation and thereafter.

Case Reports
Concurrent Salmonella mycotic abdominal aneurysm and empyema thoracis: a rare coincidence.
To present a case of Salmonella bacteremia with a rare metastatic focus. ⋯ S. enteritidis involvement of the cardiovascular system is a rare coincidence and results in significant morbidity and mortality. In addition, the phenomenon of secondary metastatic infective foci involving the pleural space has an even lower frequency than that of cardiovascular involvement. Therefore, a high index of suspicion and prompt treatment from the treating physicians are strongly recommended.
