This study was aimed at evaluating the intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) parameter alterations of liver metastases of colorectal carcinoma (CRC) during antiangiogenic bevacizumab combination therapy. ⋯ IVIM parameters, particularly the perfusion fraction, may quantitatively reflect the response to antiangiogenic treatment. The antiangiogenic response manifests after 3 months of therapy before the RECIST-related response.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between the length of the infundibulum and ostium height with the anatomic variations of osteomeatal complex (OMC) and sinus pathology using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). ⋯ Radiographic examination, especially on CBCT images, is important for an evaluation of maxillary sinuses. here, we demonstrated a significant relationship between ostium height and the presence of maxillary sinus septa. However, it was found that nasal septal deviation, concha bullosa, Haller cells, and other sinusopathies did not have a major effect on the size of the maxillary sinus drainage system.

In this study, we compared plasma levels of neuroligin 4 (NLGN4) in children with autism versus matched healthy controls to examine a possible correlation between plasma NLGN4 and degree of autism severity as well as social impairment in autistic patients. ⋯ Increased plasma concentrations of NLGN4 may play a role in the pathogenesis of autism, and it could be a valuable biomarker for autism. Further studies with larger sample sizes are warranted to validate this finding and also to explore the potential links between NLGN4 and the features of autism.

Previous studies have reported that propofol has antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects in addition to its anesthetic properties. To confirm this, a retrospective investigation was conducted to determine whether different anesthetic agents, particularly propofol and inhalation anesthetics, have an effect on the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients who were diagnosed with primary HCC and underwent laparoscopic hepatectomy. ⋯ During the 24-month period after hepatic resection, less HCC patients in the propofol group than in the inhalation group recurred (p = 0.046). The mean time to recurrence was 20.8 months (95% CI, 19.7-22.0) and 19.1 months (95% CI, 17.8-20.4) in the propofol group and the inhalation group, respectively. In addition, multivariable Cox proportional regression analysis revealed that the propofol group showed significantly decreased recurrence versus the inhalation group (hazard ratio, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.47-0.69; p = 0.029). When propofol was used as the main general anesthetic agent for laparoscopic hepatic resection, the postoperative 2-year recurrence rate decreased in early- and intermediate-stage HCC.

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Chronic Total Occlusion versus Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Non-Complex Coronary Lesions: Is There a Different Impact on Thyroid Function?
This study assessed whether high levels of iodide administered during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO) differentially influenced thyroid function compared to PCI for non-complex coronary lesions. ⋯ In euthyroid patients, PCI for coronary CTO lesions did not increase the risk for subclinical hyperthyroidism when compared to PCI for non-complex coronary lesions. However, in patients with subclinical hyperthyroidism at baseline, PCI for coronary CTO lesions significantly increased the development of overt hyperthyroidism when compared to PCI for non-complex coronary lesions.
