Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome: A Possible Cause for Growth Retardation and Pubertal Delay.
The aim of this paper was to describe a rare case of blue rubber bleb nevus (BRBNS) with growth retardation and pubertal delay. ⋯ Given that growth retardation and pubertal delay are rare in BRBNS patients, this case reminds us to include BRBNS in the differential diagnosis of growth retardation.

Unlike DNA fingerprinting, which scores for differences in the genome that are phenotype neutral, epigenetic variations are gaining importance in forensic investigations. Methylation of DNA has a broad range of effects on the lifestyle, health status, and physical appearance of individuals. ⋯ Several techniques have been used for DNA methylation analysis for epigenetic investigations of forensic biological samples. However, novel techniques are needed for multiplex analysis of epigenetic markers as the techniques that are currently available require a large amount of high-quality DNA and are also limited in their multiplexing capacities that are often insufficient to fully resolve a forensic query of interest.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most prevalent types of cancer among men worldwide. The incidence of PCa is increasing in China. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify novel diagnostic and prognostic markers for PCa to improve the treatment of the disease. ⋯ These results suggest that miR-192 may be considered for use as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target of PCa.

The Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC) includes anthropometric, metabolic, and lifestyle factors that predict type 2 diabetes mellitus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the FINDRISC modified for Latin America (LA-FINDRISC) as a screening tool for persons with impaired glucose metabolism in Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela. ⋯ A LA-FINDRISC >14 points had low sensitivity but high specificity for predicting carbohydrate metabolism disorders in this group of patients from Ciudad Bolívar.

Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug-Induced Colopathy in a Colorectal Cancer Screening Program.
To present a case of colopathy related to the use of diclofenac in a patient with a positive immunochemical faecal occult blood test (iFOBT) and to discuss the influence of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on iFOBT specificity. ⋯ No association has been established between chronic use of NSAID and a false-positive iFOBT. There is no need to stop NSAIDs before performing an iFOBT in a colorectal cancer screening program.
