In this study, we aimed to determine the predictive value of the CHA2DS2VASc score for acute stent thrombosis in patients with an ST elevation myocardial infarction treated with a primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). ⋯ The CHA2DS2VASc score may be a significant independent predictor of acute stent thrombosis in patients with STEMI treated with a pPCI. Therefore, the CHA2DS2VASc score may be used to assess the risk of acute stent thrombosis in patients with STEMI following a pPCI.

The aim of this paper was to develop calibration standards (CSs) that are readily available for clinical researchers for the quantitation of enamel mineral content. ⋯ This is a simple, valid, and reproducible method to quantitate enamel mineral content. This simple, yet accurate system could be used to expand knowledge in the field of enamel caries research.

Although the prognostic significance of systematic inflammation-based scores, such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI), has been explored in pancreatic cancers, few reports have investigated the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR). We aimed to retrospectively investigate the prognostic value of the preoperative LMR in patients with resectable pancreatic head cancer (PHC). ⋯ LMR may carry important prognostic information for patients with resectable PHC. Preoperative LMR may be considered for use in risk stratification for individual patients with PHC.

Adropin is a novel marker of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to explore the association of serum adropin levels with hepatosteatosis among adult patients. ⋯ We observed a decrease in serum adropin levels among adult patients with NAFLD. We also found lower levels of serum adropin in patients with insulin resistance, supporting previous data in the literature. Studies investigating the association of adropin levels with other inflammatory parameters are warranted to define its exact role in the pathogenesis of hepatosteatosis.

Red blood cells (RBCs) in storage undergo structural and biochemical changes that may cause functional effects. Studies exploring structural changes affecting the expression levels of CD55 and CD59 on RBCs are limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of CD55 and CD59 expression on RBCs in stored blood from Arab donors. ⋯ There is a preferential time-dependent decline in the expression of CD59, but not of CD55, on stored RBCs, the in vivo significance of which in relation to the response to PRBC transfusion needs further investigation.
