Beneficial Effects of n-3 Fatty Acids on Cardiometabolic and Inflammatory Markers in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Clinical Trial.
To determine the effect of supplementation with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) on circulatory resistin and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. ⋯ The MCP-1 levels and lipid profile were improved after supplementation with n-3 PUFAs, but resistin serum levels were not changed. Hence, the anti-inflammatory effects of n-3 PUFAs might be mediated by targeting MCP-1.

Low Tidal Volume Positive End-Expiratory Pressure versus High Tidal Volume Zero-Positive End-Expiratory Pressure and Postoperative Pulmonary Functions in Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy.
The aim was to compare the effects of low tidal volume (VT) and moderate positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) with high VT and zero end-expiratory pressure (ZEEP) on postoperative pulmonary functions and oxygenation in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. ⋯ Postoperative pulmonary functions were less impaired in patients ventilated with a VT of 6 mL/kg and 8 cm H2O PEEP than in patients ventilated with a VT of 10 mL/kg and ZEEP.

To establish the efficacy of an algorithm based on the biomarker procalcitonin (PCT) to reduce antibiotic exposure in pediatric patients with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). ⋯ This study showed that PCT guidance of antibiotic treatment in children and adolescents with LRTI reduced the duration of antibiotic exposure and antibiotic prescribing rates, but did not affect the adverse effect rate and length of hospital stay.

The aim of this work was to describe the use of a combination of fidaxomicin and fecal microbiota therapy (FMT) in Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). ⋯ In this case, severe CDI colitis was successfully treated with the combination of FMT and fidaxomicin.

To investigate the effect of insulin pump user retraining on treatment success, quality of life, and metabolic parameters of patients with type 1 diabetes using continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion. ⋯ Management of type 1 diabetes in insulin pump users can be significantly improved by retraining. Even a basic short-term retraining program helps patients to increase their knowledge level and ability to more effectively use the insulin pump. The fact that retraining significantly improves glycemic parameters in patients with poor metabolic control indicates that priority should be given to this group of patients. Further studies with individualized training programs in larger sample sizes with long-term follow-up are needed to establish the importance of retraining and create re-education plans for patients with type 1 diabetes using an insulin pump.
