(1) To evaluate clinical and molecular cardiovascular disease (CVD) signs and their relationship with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) features and (2) to identify a clinical patient profile susceptible to benefit from methotrexate (MTX) and/or apremilast regarding CVD risk. ⋯ (1) Novel CVD-related proteins associated with clinical features could be emerging therapeutic targets in the context of PsA and (2) the pleiotropic action of apremilast could make it an excellent choice for the management of PsA patients with high CVD risk, targeting metabolic alterations and CVD-related molecules.

Recent technological developments have allowed determination of the age of fat cells and their lipids in adult humans. In contrast to prior views, this has demonstrated a high turnover rate of the fat cells (10%/year) and their unilocular lipid droplets (six times/10 years). Fat cell turnover is increased in obesity and when adipose tissue is composed of many but small adipocytes (hyperplasia, a benign adipose phenotype). ⋯ Adipose lipid turnover is also decreased in insulin resistance and certain forms of dyslipidemia. Altogether, adult human adipose tissue is in a highly dynamic state. Alterations in the turnover of fat cells and their lipids are therefore novel factors to consider in the pathophysiology of common metabolic disorders.

Liver-derived apolipoprotein B-100 (ApoB100) is an autoantigen that is recognized by atherogenic CD4+ T cells in cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD is a major mortality risk for patients with chronic inflammatory liver diseases. However, the impact of liver damage for ApoB100-specific T-cell responses is unknown. ⋯ Our results show that liver damage promotes pro-inflammatory ApoB100-specific T-cell populations, thereby providing a cellular mechanism for the increased CVD risk in liver disease patients.
