Effect of lipid emulsion on the central nervous system and cardiac toxicity of bupivacaine and levobupivacaine in awake rats.
Despite numerous studies examining the effect of lipid emulsion on bupivacaine-induced cardiac toxicity, few studies have examined its effect on central nervous system (CNS) toxicity of local anesthetics. We investigated the effect of lipid emulsion on the CNS and cardiac toxicity of bupivacaine and levobupivacaine in awake, spontaneously breathing rats. ⋯ Lipid emulsion decreased CNS and cardiac toxicity of both bupivacaine and levobupivacaine.
