Observational StudyPrediction of failed facemask ventilation: new scoring system for difficult airway.
We previously have shown that there was a strong correlation between failed facemask ventilation, failed ventilation through a supraglottic airway, and difficult tracheal intubation. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate whether or not an established method to predict difficult ventilation through a supraglottic airway was also useful for predicting failed facemask ventilation. ⋯ The predictive score for difficult ventilation through a supraglottic airway is also useful to predict failed facemask ventilation.

PENG block and LIA as a possible anesthesia technique for total hip arthroplasty.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the pericapsular nerve group block and local infiltration analgesia (LIA) combination as the only anesthesia technique for the total hip arthroplasty (THA). We considered the anesthetic plan, postoperative analgesia, hospital length of stay, functional recovery, bleeding, complications and the adverse events. We reported 10 ASA I-II patients admitted for elective primary THA, receiving LIA during (5) and at the end of surgery (5). ⋯ No intraoperative complications or signs of toxicity occurred. The median duration of surgery was 59.5 ± 4.5 min and the hospital stay ranged between 2 and 3 days. PENG block and LIA could be hypothesized as an effective and safety anesthesia technique for the THA surgery, facilitating hip functional recovery and limit intraoperative blood losses and adverse events.

Stiripentol alleviates neuropathic pain in L5 spinal nerve-transected mice.
Antiepileptic drugs are used not only for the treatment of epilepsy but also for that of neuropathic pain. However, their action mechanisms have not always been well explained. Stiripentol, an effective antiepileptic drug indicated as a therapeutic for Dravet syndrome, was recently shown to act as an inhibitor of lactate dehydrogenase in astrocytes. In this present study, we examined the effect of stiripentol on neuropathic pain in L5 spinal nerve-transected mice. ⋯ This present study demonstrated that stiripentol was effective against neuropathic pain and suggested that the astrocyte-neuron lactate shuttle was involved in such pain.
