Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) might soon become the most prevalent type of acute heart failure. Still, despite more than 30 years of research on HFpEF, not only do we lack specific treatment, but also a generally accepted definition of HFpEF. Since 2016, several definitions and algorithms have been proposed for diagnosing both diastolic dysfunction and overt HFpEF. ⋯ KEY MESSAGES:Several scores and algorithms have been proposed for diagnosing chronic heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), however, so far, there is no definition of acute HFpEF. Acute HFpEF seems to be overdiagnosed in patients presenting with acute dyspnoea. Definition of acute HFpEF should comprise both (1) features of chronic HFpEF and (2) markers of increased left ventricular filling pressures and/or of pulmonary congestion.

Previous studies have demonstrated that blood urea nitrogen (BUN) is strongly associated with sepsis. However, no data are currently available regarding the association of BUN levels and neonatal sepsis. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the role of BUN in predicting the presence and severity of neonatal sepsis. ⋯ Higher BUN level is independently linked with the presence and severity of neonatal sepsis.

Tripteryguim wilfordii Hook (TWH) has significant anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties and is widely used for treating autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. However, the multi-target mechanism of TWH on ankylosing spondylitis (AS) remains to be elucidated. ⋯ Verified by network pharmacology approach based on data mining and molecular docking methods, multi-target drug TWH may serve as a promising therapeutic candidate for AS but still needs further in vivo/in vitro experiments.

This study aims to explore the relevance between YKL-40 and recurrence and progression of bladder cancer, and determine whether YKL-40 can be used as a potential target in patients with bladder cancer. ⋯ YKL-40 promoted the migration and invasion of bladder cancer cells by up regulating the EMT gene expression. The YKL-40 expression is closely related to the invasion and migration of bladder cancer.

This study was designed to explore the expression and the diagnostic value of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) in pernicious placenta previa (PPP) combined placental accreta/increta. A total of 140 PPP patients were enrolled and divided into two groups: 56 patients with placenta accreta/increta (PA group), and 84 patients without placenta accreta/increta (non-PA group). In the same period, 46 pregnant women without PPP who had undergone caesarean section were selected as controls. ⋯ KEY POINTSThe levels of VEGF and sFlt-1 could be used to distinguish placenta accreta from placenta increta. VEGF is negatively correlated with sFlt-1 in PPP patients. The levels of VEGF and sFlt-1 could be used as auxiliary indicators to diagnose PPP and distinguish between placenta accreta and increta.
