Currently, there is limited research reporting the symptoms of long COVID among athletes, and the recommendations for athletes returning to competition/training who have experienced long COVID symptoms. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review is to synthesise the recommendations for returning athletes who have experienced long COVID symptoms. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO under CRD42021265939. ⋯ Key MessagesFurther research, including longitudinal research of athletes who have tested positive for COVID-19, is required to develop evidenced-based guidelines for athletes with ongoing COVID-19 symptoms. Prior to returning to play after COVID-19 infection, a thorough medical history, physical and psychological examination should be conducted by a medical professional. Athletes should continue to monitor and record their own physical and psychological markers of health.

Circular RNA microarray analysis showed hsa_circ_0010235 (circ_0010235) was highly upregulated in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients; however, its role in carcinogenesis and development of NSCLC cells was unrevealed. Here, we intended to investigate role and mechanism of circ_0010235 in NSCLC proliferation, migration and invasion. ⋯ circ_0010235 could be a novel identified oncogenic circRNA in NSCLC, and targeting miR-338-3p/KIF2A axis was one regulatory mechanism underlying circ_0010235.KEY MESSAGECirc_0010235 was an upregulated circRNA in NSCLC patients and cells.Interfering circ_0010235 restrained NSCLC cell proliferation and metastasis in vitro and in vivo.miR-338-3p per se suppressed NSCLC in vitro and its downregulation diminished the tumour-suppressive role of circ_0010235 blockage in NSCLC cells.miR-338-3p could downstream target KIF2A and be sponged by circ_0010235.

The response rate and survival benefit of immunotherapy vary among patients, implying specific immune status of an individual could be associated with the effect of immunotherapy. However, in-depth studies of immune subtypes (ISs), immune landscape and tumour microenvironment of oesophageal cancer (ESCA) and their clinical implications are less reported. ⋯ In summary, we identified clinically relevant immunoclusters in both adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of oesophagus, revealing the necessity of assessing the complexity and diversity of immune microenvironment for cancer immunotherapy.

Although patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are at higher risk of hip fracture, data regarding the effect of DM on rehabilitation outcomes are limited. ⋯ Patients with well-controlled DM have similar post-hip fracture rehabilitation potential compared with non-diabetics, despite more co-morbidities. These results support resource allocation for post-hip fracture rehabilitation among patients with DM. The higher 1-year all-cause mortality in patients with DM reinforces the need for close follow-up and control of co-morbidities in this population.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most conspicuous chronic neurodegenerative syndrome, which has become a significant challenge for the global healthcare system. Multiple studies have corroborated a clear association of neurotoxicants with AD pathogenicity, such as Amyloid beta (Aβ) proteins and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), signalling pathway modifications, cellular stress, cognitive dysfunctions, neuronal apoptosis, neuroinflammation, epigenetic modification, and so on. This review, therefore, aimed to address several essential mechanisms and signalling cascades, including Wnt (wingless and int.) signalling pathway, autophagy, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), protein kinase C (PKC) signalling cascades, cellular redox status, energy metabolism, glutamatergic neurotransmissions, immune cell stimulations (e.g. microglia, astrocytes) as well as an amyloid precursor protein (APP), presenilin-1 (PSEN1), presenilin-2 (PSEN2) and other AD-related gene expressions that have been pretentious and modulated by the various neurotoxicants. ⋯ Key messagesInevitable cascade mechanisms of how Alzheimer's Disease-related (AD-related) gene expressions are modulated by neurotoxicants have been discussed. Involvement of the neurotoxicants-induced pathways caused an extended risk of AD is explicited. Integration of cell culture, animals and population-based analysis on the clinical severity of AD is addressed.
