Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an organ-specific disease. Its pathogenesis has not been clearly studied yet; However, studies in recent years have shown that its pathogenesis is related to T helper cells. The pathogenesis of BP is mainly related to Th2 and Th17-related cytokines. ⋯ The serum concentrations of IL-17 and IL-23 are related to the prognosis of BP. In this paper, we focus on the role of related cytokines in the pathogenesis of bullous pemphigoid and the relationship between the related cytokine populations secreted by three major T helper cells-helper T lymphocytes 1 (Th1), Th2, and Th17. A better understanding of the biological and immunological functions of cytokines associated with BP patients will provide opportunities for therapeutic targets in BP.

Somatic symptoms related to mental health in medical students are under-researched, with nothing on the topic being published in the United States in over three decades. This scoping review is the first of its kind to explore the prevalence, type and severity of somatic symptoms induced by stress, anxiety, depression and burnout amongst medical students, with the objective of describing the significance and breadth of this issue. ⋯ Somatic symptoms appear strongly correlated with mental ill-health in medical students, and are likely highly prevalent. This review highlights the need for further research on somatic symptoms of mental ill-health in medical students, particularly in the United States, and the addition of larger, multi-institutional cohorts to expand our understanding of prevalence, incidence and inciting factors of somatic symptoms. Longitudinal studies tracking somatic symptoms' effect on career trajectory and professional burnout levels are also needed. Finally, future research should explore interventions for reducing physical symptom burden in medical students.

Cardiac sympathetic hyperinnervation after myocardial infarction (MI) is associated with arrhythmogenesis and sudden cardiac death. The characteristics of cardiac sympathetic hyperinnervation remain underexposed. ⋯ Cardiac sympathetic hyperinnervation after MI occurs mainly in the borderzone from three days onwards and remains present at later timepoints, for at least 3 months. It is most commonly studied in male rats with permanent LAD ligation. The amount of hyperinnervation differs greatly between studies, possibly due to differential quantification methods. Further studies are required that evaluate cardiac sympathetic hyperinnervation over time and in the chronic phase, in transmural sections, in the female sex, and in MI with reperfusion.

Aim: To discuss the progress of extracellular matrix (ECM) characteristics, mitochondrial homeostasis, and their potential crosstalk in the pathogenesis of sarcopenia, a geriatric syndrome characterized by a generalized and progressive reduction in muscle mass, strength, and physical performance. Methods: This review focuses on the anatomy and physiology of skeletal muscle, alterations of ECM and mitochondria during ageing, and the role of the interplay between ECM and mitochondria in the pathogenesis of sarcopenia. Results: Emerging evidence points to a clear interplay between mitochondria and ECM in various tissues and organs. ⋯ However, the precise effects of such crosstalk on the pathobiology of ageing, particularly in skeletal muscle, have not yet been fully understood. Conclusion: The changes in skeletal muscle ECM and mitochondria are partially responsible for the worsened muscle function during the ageing process. A deeper understanding of their alterations and interactions in sarcopenic patients can help prevent sarcopenia and improve its prognoses.

Objective: Evaluate the profiles of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) adherence, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and discontinuation associated with ADRs to provide information for further PEP program improvement and increase adherence to PEP. Methods: The Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched for cohort studies reporting data related to PEP adherence or ADRs (PROSPERO, CRD42022385073). Pooled estimates of adherence, the incidence of ADRs and discontinuation associated with ADRs, and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated separately for the included literature using random effects models. ⋯ Conclusion: Adherence to PEP was less than 60% across samples, however, there was significant heterogeneity depending on the samples. SAs had the lowest adherence and the highest incidence of PEP discontinuation. Ongoing adherence education for participants, timely monitoring, and management of ADRs may improve adherence.
