To investigate self-reported sleep duration, sleep timing, sleep status and influencing factors in the Chinese population. ⋯ The national survey provided a sleep profile of the Chinese population. Both socio-economic status and personal sleep hygiene habits had an impact on 'Good sleep'.

Low HbF expression in HbE-β+-thalassemia may lead to misdiagnosis of HbE heterozygosity. We aimed to characterize the β- and α-globin genes and the modifying factors related to HbF expression in patients with an Hb phenotype similar to that of HbE heterozygotes. Furthermore, screening tools for differentiating HbE-β+-thalassemia from HbE heterozygotes have been investigated. ⋯ HbE-β+-thalassemia cannot be disregarded until appropriate DNA analysis is performed, and the detection of α-thalassemia mutations should always be performed under these conditions. An HbE level ≥35.0% may indicate screening of samples for DNA analysis for HbE-β+-thalassemia diagnosis.

Hypertension has become increasingly prevalent in Chinese children and adolescents in recent decades, which affects growth and development of children, leads to cognitive decline and multiple target organ damage. Here, we assessed the impact of different body mass index (BMI) trajectories on the occurrence of hypertension in children and adolescents using a cohort study in Northeast China. ⋯ The potential of developing hypertension varies among groups of children aged 5-18 with different BMI trajectories. Children and adolescents in the normal BMI range (the slow growth group) still need to be aware of the change in BMI trajectory to stop or slow down the progression of BP abnormalities.

To provide a foundation for clinical diagnosis, epidemiological investigation and intervention trials, we examined the reliability and validity of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2011 and 2016 survey diagnostic criteria among Chinese patients based on the fibromyalgia severity (FS) scale. ⋯ The 2011c and 2016c are reliable instruments for diagnosing fibromyalgia patients in China. The FS scale could be a valid tool to assist in fibromyalgia diagnosis, and a cutoff value 11 points is more suitable in Chinese patients.

Eleven healthy adults participated in four 1-hour sessions of ecologically valid WBV exposure followed by one of four 5-minute activities: sitting, walking, 2 min of gaze stabilization exercise (GSE) coupled with 3 min of trunk mobility exercise (GSE + MOBIL), or 2 min of GSE coupled with a 3-minute walk (GSE + WALK). Baseline and post-activity measurements (rating of perceived discomfort, balance and postural sway measurements, 5-minute psychomotor vigilance task test) were submitted to a paired t-test to determine the effect of WBV exposure and activities on physical, cognitive, and sensorimotor systems and to a repeated measures ANOVA to determine any differences across activities. ⋯ When compared to sitting for 5 min, an activity including GSE and an active component, such as walking or trunk mobility exercises, resulted in maintenance of reaction time after WBV exposure. If confirmed in occupational environments, GSE may provide a simple, rapid, effective, and inexpensive means to protect against decrements in reaction time after WBV exposure.
