Accumulating evidence suggests that differentially expressed circular RNAs (circRNAs) play critical roles in immune cells of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. Hsa_circ_0000479 has been studied in the field of cancer and infection, whereas seldom studied in autoimmune diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the role and clinical value of neutrophil hsa_circ_0000479 in SLE. ⋯ Hsa_circ_0000479 is up-regulated in neutrophils of SLE patients, and is also associated with several important laboratory indicators and clinical manifestations, suggesting that hsa_circ_0000479 in neutrophils was one of probable factors involved in the pathogenesis of SLE with potential clinical value.

Dose (number of repetitions) has been suggested as a key element in the effectiveness of rehabilitation exercises to promote motor recovery of the hemiparetic upper limb. However, rehabilitation exercises tend to be monotonous and require significant motivation to continue, making it difficult to increase the exercise dose. To address this issue, gamification technology has been implemented in exercises to promote self-engagement for people with hemiparesis in continuing monotonous repetitive movements. This study aimed to investigate how subjective perspectives, specifically enjoyability, motivation to continue, and expectancy of effectiveness, change through continuous daily exercise using a developed gamified exercise system. ⋯ Exercise using the developed EMG-controlled gamified system may have the potential to maintain motivation and enjoyment in people with stroke to continue monotonous repetitive finger movements.

Chronic kidney disease is related to neurodegeneration and structural changes in the brain which might lead to cognitive decline. The Fazekas scale used for assessing white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) was associated with poor cognitive performance. Therefore, this study investigated the associations between the mini-mental status examination (MMSE), Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA), cognitive abilities screening instrument (CASI), and Fazekas scale in patients under hemodialysis (HD). ⋯ An inverse correlation existed between the Fazekas scale, predominantly in PVWMHs, and cognition in patients undergoing HD. The PVWMHs were associated with cognitive performance assessed by MMSE, MoCA, and CASI, as well as with subdomains of CASI such as memory, language and name fluency in patients undergoing HD.

The chemotherapy resistance often leads to chemotherapy failure. This study aims to explore the molecular mechanism by which MUC1 regulates paclitaxel resistance in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), providing scientific basis for future target selection. ⋯ MUC1 was highly expressed in A549/TAX cells, and MUC1-EGFR crosstalk with IL-6 may be due to the activation of NF-κB and MAPK pathways, which promote the enrichment of CSCs and lead to paclitaxel resistance.

To determine the incidence rates (IRs) of catastrophic injuries and exertional medical events in lacrosse athletes. ⋯ The incidence of catastrophic events during lacrosse was higher among collegiate than high school or youth athletes. SCA from an underlying cardiac condition or from commotio cordis was the most common catastrophic event. Fatality rates from catastrophic injuries have declined significantly over the study period, perhaps driven by protective measures adopted by lacrosse governing bodies.
