Clinical validity of genome sequencing (GS) (>30×) has been preliminarily verified in the post-natal setting. This study is to investigate the potential utility of trio-GS as a prenatal test for diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) anomalies. ⋯ GS demonstrates its feasibility in providing genetic diagnosis for foetal CNS abnormalities and shows the potential to expand the application to foetuses with other ultrasound anomalies in prenatal diagnosis.

Evidence shows that diabetes raises the probability of contracting COVID-19 and associated complications. We hypothesize that metformin, being pleiotropic, may improve COVID-19 in diabetics. ⋯ Metformin users have a decrease in hospital stay and mortality rates and improvement in LDH, CRP, and D-dimer levels. Therefore, metformin might protect against mortality in COVID-19 with diabetes.

Patients with severe asthma frequently have comorbid chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with or without nasal polyps, that can increase the symptom burden and complicate treatment. Real-life clinical data on the impact of biologic treatments on CRS-specific quality-of-life questionnaires are still lacking. ⋯ The study confirms the efficacy of omalizumab, mepolizumab, benralizumab, and dupilumab in a real-life setting, with a rapid improvement in CRS-specific HRQoL and general health status. These data highlight the importance of targeting type 2 inflammation in asthmatic patients with co-existing upper and lower airways disease.The Authors disclose that preliminary data and analysis of the present study have been presented in abstract form during the "X International Workshop on Lung Health - Respiratory Disease and Immune Response", held in Nice on 19-21 January 2023.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic gastrointestinal condition. While inflammatory biomarkers are valuable for diagnosing and monitoring the disease, their correlation with patients' quality of life (QoL) is not well-established. ⋯ Inflammatory markers such as CRP, FC, or cortisol in hair do not play a decisive role in assessing the QoL of IBD patients. These findings emphasize the significance of considering psychological factors in evaluating and managing QoL in IBD patients in order to identify severity, suggesting that instruments like HADS should be integral to comprehensive patient assessments.
