Self-assessment (SA) is increasingly recognized not only as an assessment method but also as a vital learning activity that enables learners to identify their strengths and limitations, fostering a crucial skill for lifelong learning. Despite its acknowledged significance, there remains a gap in understanding SA for and as learning, rather than merely of learning. This review, therefore, explores two primary questions: (1) What factors inform the implementation of medical students' SA practices? (2) How does SA practices contribute to various educational outcomes? ⋯ Our review does not focus on SA accuracy or its role as an assessment method; instead it delves into the role of SA as an integral learning practice. We explored its influencing factors and its impact across various outcomes. The findings indicate that for SA to effectively enhance student learning outcomes, it must be implemented with ample support, clear guidelines, and within contexts that encourage feedback and reflection.

To evaluate the diagnostic value of the FibroScan-AST (FAST) score, non-alcoholic fatty liver fibrosis score (NFS), FibroScan, and liver fibrosis index (FIB-4) for identifying fibrotic non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). ⋯ In patients with CHB combined with MAFLD, FAST did not have better accuracy than NFS and FIB-4 for predicting fibrotic NASH, whereas LSM had better accuracy than FAST and FIB-4.

JEMS® (Joanne Elphinston Movement Systems) described as a systematic, holistic approach to analyze and create sound foundations for movement, is increasing in popularity among physiotherapists. The aim of this study was to investigate and capture the experiences and narratives of physiotherapists (PTs) using JEMS® for rehabilitation with patients in primary healthcare. ⋯ The FGD was chosen to capture the variety and width of experiences of the PTs using JEMS®. The opportunity for learning and reflecting in the FGDs was appreciated by the PTs. The interaction between the patient and the PT was described as fundamental in establishing foundations for movement. Opportunities to meet and treat patients regardless of functional limitations elaborated and were in that way applicable in primary healthcare where patients seek a physiotherapist for a variety of reasons.

The mechanisms of a concussion place stress on the cervical spine like that of a whiplash event, which can result in cervical spine dysfunction. This study aimed to determine if underlying cervical spine mobility and sensorimotor function deficits occur in individuals who are post-concussion with near resolution of symptoms. ⋯ Following a concussion, it is a reasonable recommendation to screen the cervical spine to identify impairments in joint mobility and JPE that contribute to neck dysfunction.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune, inflammatory joint disease. There is growing evidence that ferroptosis is involved in the pathogenesis of RA. This study aimed to search for diagnostic markers of ferroptosis in RA and to analyse the potential mechanisms and clinical value. ⋯ Our study suggests that MMP13 and GABARAPL1, which are closely linked with oxidative stress and immunological modulation, can be used as ferroptosis-related potential diagnostic markers in RA and provide new clues regarding the diagnostic and therapeutic targets of ferroptosis in RA.
