This study aims to explore the correlation between central and peripheral thyroid resistance indices and diabetic retinopathy(DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), so as to provide a clinical basis for the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. ⋯ The reduction of central and peripheral thyroid hormone sensitivity is an independent risk factor for DR. These results can help predict the risk of the occurrence and development of DR, which may provide a clinical basis for the prevention and treatment of DR in T2DM patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the concomitant administration (co-administration) of inactivated seasonal influenza and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines, encouraging the practice for the 2021-2022 flu season. This study aimed to assess the acceptance of simultaneously receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine (SIV) and the COVID-19 vaccine in a single administration to reduce vaccine rejection towards the COVID-19 vaccination. ⋯ We can conclude that combining SIV and COVID-19 vaccines in one shot increased the overall acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines among vaccine rejectors.

Low HbF expression in HbE-β+-thalassemia may lead to misdiagnosis of HbE heterozygosity. We aimed to characterize the β- and α-globin genes and the modifying factors related to HbF expression in patients with an Hb phenotype similar to that of HbE heterozygotes. Furthermore, screening tools for differentiating HbE-β+-thalassemia from HbE heterozygotes have been investigated. ⋯ HbE-β+-thalassemia cannot be disregarded until appropriate DNA analysis is performed, and the detection of α-thalassemia mutations should always be performed under these conditions. An HbE level ≥35.0% may indicate screening of samples for DNA analysis for HbE-β+-thalassemia diagnosis.

Glycaemic dysregulation potentiates the pro-inflammatory response and increases oxidative injury; therefore, preoperative hyperglycaemia is linked to increased mortalities. In addition, inflammation is accompanied by higher glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, and the relationship between this and random blood sugar (RBS) could be non-linear. ⋯ HbA1c and RBS could be used as inflammatory markers for surgical acute abdomen and its degree of severity, respectively. HbA1c rises in a considerable number of cases with surgical acute abdomen, irrespective of the disease stage. However, as the disease progresses, the random blood sugar rises due to stress hyperglycaemia, thus becoming a surrogate inflammatory marker.

To investigate self-reported sleep duration, sleep timing, sleep status and influencing factors in the Chinese population. ⋯ The national survey provided a sleep profile of the Chinese population. Both socio-economic status and personal sleep hygiene habits had an impact on 'Good sleep'.
