To screen and identify microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) using clinical samples and construct a prediction model for the prognosis of LUAD. ⋯ miRNAs associated with the prognosis of patients with stage I LUAD were screened and validated, and a risk model for predicting the prognosis of patients was constructed. This model has good consistency with the actual prognosis of patients.

This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of different treatment modalities for previously untreated advanced EGFR-mutated non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). ⋯ First-generation EGFR-TKI plus bevacizumab plus chemotherapy was a promising strategy for advanced EGFR-mutated non-squamous NSCLC.

The scope of lateral neck lymph node dissection (LND) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) remains controversial. Our research aimed to explore the value of central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in frozen sections for predicting neck lateral lymph node metastasis (NLLNM) and to guide clinical surgeons in performing surgical lymph node dissection. ⋯ Central LNs in frozen sections accurately predicted NLLNM. In patients with PTC with >5 CLNMs, ≥2 and ≤5 CLNMs and maximum metastatic diameter > 2 mm, neck lateral LND should be considered. Our findings will facilitate the identification of patients who are likely to benefit from extended lateral neck LND.

Accurate diagnosis of macular atrophy is paramount to enable appropriate treatment when novel treatments for geographic atrophy and macular dystrophies become available. Genetic testing is useful in distinguishing between the two conditions but is not feasible for the majority of patients in real-world clinical practice. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the potential misdiagnosis of inherited macular dystrophy as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in real-world ophthalmic practice to assist in the development of guidelines to improve diagnostic accuracy while minimizing genetic testing for targeted patients. ⋯ Improving the diagnostic accuracy of both AMD and macular dystrophy, while ensuring cost-efficient genetic testing, will improve the targeted treatment of macular diseases when emerging treatments become available.

Depression during pregnancy or postpartum carries the same risks as general depression as well as additional risks specific to pregnancy, infant health and maternal well-being. The purpose of this study is to document the prevalence of depression symptoms and diagnosis during pregnancy and in the first 3 months postpartum among a cohort of women receiving prenatal care in a large health system. Secondarily, we examine variability in screening results and diagnosis by race, ethnicity, language, economic status and other maternal characteristics during pregnancy and postpartum. ⋯ Depression symptoms and diagnoses differ by maternal characteristics during pregnancy with some groups at substantially higher risk. Efforts to examine disparities in screening and diagnosis are needed to identify reasons for variability in prenatal depression diagnosis between Black and White women.Key messagesWomen who were young, single, have public insurance, and women who identify as multiracial or non-Hispanic (NH) Native American were most likely to have a positive depression screen or a diagnosis for depression. After adjustment for confounders, NH Black women with a positive depression screen were about half as likely to have a diagnosis of depression during pregnancy as NH White women.Awareness of the differing prevalence of depression risk screening results, diagnoses and potential for variation in diagnosis may identify opportunities to improve equity in the delivery of essential mental health care to all patients.
