Inflammation plays a key role in atherosclerosis development and progression. However, the role of novel inflammatory biomarker pathways, namely the SIRT1-NF-κB-sCD40L, in the etiopathogenesis of human atherosclerosis remains undefined. This study was designed to evaluate the changes and clinical implications of these inflammatory mediators in the plasma of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). ⋯ The levels of the circulating inflammatory biomarkers, including SIRT1, NF-κB, and sCD40L, were significantly elevated in patients with AMI. These novel biomarkers can improve the diagnostic accuracy of AMI when combined with TNT.KEY MESSAGESAMI is a potentially lethal CAD and is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Inflammation plays a key role in atherosclerosis development and progression. The levels of the circulating novel inflammatory biomarkers, including SIRT1, NF-κB, and sCD40L, were significantly elevated in patients with AMI.The SIRT1 level was positively correlated with NF-κB and sCD40L levels in patients with AMI.The levels of SIRT1, NF-κB and sCD40L were positively correlated with TNT levels. The ROC analysis showed that the diagnostic accuracy of AMI was significantly higher when NF-κB or sCD40L level was used in combination with TNT levels.SIRT1/NF-κB/sCD40L axis inhibition is a potential new target for AMI treatment.

Neuromuscular adaptations after osseointegration of a bone-anchored prosthesis in a unilateral transfemoral amputee - a case study.
Many individuals with a lower limb amputation experience problems with the fitting of the socket of their prosthesis, leading to dissatisfaction or device rejection. Osseointegration (OI)- the implantation of a shaft directly interfacing with the remaining bone- is an alternative for these patients. In this observational study, we investigated how bone anchoring influences neuromuscular parameters during balance control in a patient with a unilateral transfemoral amputation. ⋯ These findings point to shifts in the patient's neuromuscular profile towards the one of able-bodied individuals.

Objective To explore the heterogenous subtypes and the associated factors of health literacy among patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted, and 337 patients with metabolic syndrome were recruited from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Zhejiang Province from December 2021 to February 2022. The Social Support Questionnaire, Short version of the Health Literacy Scale European Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16), and MacArthur Scale of Subjective Social Status were used for investigation. ⋯ Compared with low levels of health literacy class, the moderate levels of health literacy class were predicted by age (OR 0.964, 95%CI[0.934-0.995]), socio-economic status (OR 1.118, 95%CI[1.006-1.242]), male (OR 0.229, 95%CI[0.092-0.576]). Conclusion The levels of health literacy among patients with metabolic syndrome can be divided into three heterogenous subtypes. The results can inform policy-makers and care professionals to design targeted interventions for different subgroups among patients with metabolic syndrome who are male, at older age, have less social support, and with disadvantaged socio-economic status to improve health literacy.

Menstruation is a natural phenomenon considered an important indicator of women's health, reflecting their endocrine function. Women in low middle income countries face substantial menstrual hygiene management challenges. Data on the knowledge of dysmenorrhea and health-related practices among Malaysian women are scarce. The present study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dysmenorrhea among Malaysian women in Kuala Lumpur and its association with socio-demographic factors, knowledge level, and general practices. ⋯ Dysmenorrhea has a high prevalence among women in Malaysia in Kula Lumpur driven by low knowledge and lack of evidence-based practices among these women. Thus, it is critical for Government and healthcare authorities to promote education related to women health among Malaysian women.

Botulism is a rare disease, and infant botulism (IB) even rarer, especially when steering the condition to honey consumption. IB is considered a life-threatening disease as it leads to severe neurological symptoms. Exploring the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) among mothers on the relationship between honey and IB will help public health professionals implement appropriate maternal health education materials targeting infant health and increase the awareness of the paediatric primary care providers, physicians, and nurse practitioners about the risk of IB among their patients. ⋯ The study revealed that mothers from Hail city have relatively low knowledge of IB and that they hold favourable perceptions of using honey as a food supplement and feeding honey to their infants before 12 months. Considering the high prevalence of honey feeding with the known low incidence of IB in SA, Medical professionals should consider IB in their differential diagnosis particularly in the presence of neurological symptoms.
