To identify factors which may influence mobility and could be considered during the evaluation of mobility in individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI) following qualitative focus groups with both clinicians and individuals with ABI, to assess their needs and preferences in order to individualize their care management plans. ⋯ Comprehensive measurement of mobility remains an ongoing challenge owing to multiple contributing factors, ranging from personal and psychosocial factors to the influence of a myriad of environmental and community considerations. Preparing individuals with ABI for community mobility can be substantially improved if healthcare professionals employ communicative tools to facilitate shared decision making with patients and to deliver patient-centred rehabilitation care.

The Oxford classification of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) was revised in 2016 which lacked sufficient evidence for prognostic value of subclassification of focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (S lesion), and the proper proportion of S lesion for subclassification remains undetermined. ⋯ This study might recommend new subclassification of S scores (S0 (no S lesion), S1 (S lesion <25% of glomeruli), and S2 (S lesion ≥ 25% of glomeruli)) for the Oxford classification. This model may also help to evaluate pros and cons of immunosuppressive therapy in IgAN patients with different level of S lesion.KEY MESSAGESS lesion ≥ 25% is an independent risk factor for poor renal outcome in IgAN patients.This new subclassification of S scores may help to evaluate pros and cons of immunotherapy in IgAN patients with different level of S lesion.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused deaths and shortages in medical resources worldwide, making the prediction of patient prognosis and the identification of risk factors very important. Increasing age is already known as one of the main risk factors for poor outcomes, but the effect of body mass index (BMI) on COVID-19 outcomes in older patients has not yet been investigated. Aim: We aimed to determine the effect of BMI on the severity and mortality of COVID-19 among older patients in South Korea. ⋯ However, this study was limited by the lack of availability of some information, including smoking status. KEY MESSAGESUnderweight is an independent risk factor of death in older COVID-19 patients. Overweight patients have a lower risk of death and severe infection than normal-weight patients.

To the best of our knowledge, the association of inflammatory parameters with hepatic hydatid disease (HD) has not been investigated in a single study. We aimed to evaluate the potential value of inflammatory indices in this disorder. ⋯ Inflammatory parameters closely associated with the hepatic HD could be used in the evaluation of treatment as assistant indexes.KEY MESSAGEHydatid disease (HD) seriously endangers public health and economic development.Inflammatory parameters that are readily available and acceptable in routine clinical practice could be closely associated with HD.Inflammatory parameters could be used in the evaluation of disease development by combing with histological and radiological results in future studies.

Q fever endocarditis is a major cause of culture-negative endocarditis. The role of Coxellia burnetii is underestimated because it is difficult to diagnose. We investigated the significance of C. burnetii as the cause of culture-negative endocarditis and vascular infection by examining blood and tissue specimens using serological testing and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). ⋯ Approximately one-third of patients with culture-negative endocarditis and vascular infection was diagnosed as Q fever. Q fever endocarditis and vascular infection may be underestimated in routine clinical practice in South Korea.KEY MESSAGEQ fever endocarditis and vascular infection may be underestimated in routine clinical practice, thus, try to find evidence of C. burnetti infection in suspected patients by all available diagnostic tests including PCR.
