Serum fibrinogen/albumin ratio (FAR) is a new inflammatory marker related to a variety of diseases, and it has been shown to be associated with stroke. This study is to investigate the relationship between serum FAR and early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with recent small subcortical infarction (RSSI). ⋯ Elevated FAR levels were associated with the occurrence of END within seven days after admission in RSSI patients, especially in men, age ≤65 years, or patients without smoking history.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a malignant condition in humans. Anoikis-related genes (ARGs) are crucial to cancer progression. Therefore, more studies on the relationship between ARGs and ESCC are warranted. ⋯ The study established an ARG prognosis model of ESCC. It provided a reference for the research of ARGs in ESCC.

Atrioventricular block (AVB) is rare in hyperthyroidism (HTH). Little is known about the true prevalence, clinical course, optimal management, and outcomes of different types of AVBs in patients with HTH. To address these uncertainties, we aimed to conduct a systematic review by combining the available literature to provide more meaningful data regarding AVBs in HTH. ⋯ Current data suggest that CHB is the most common type of AVB in patients with HTH. Most patients can be managed with anti-thyroid management alone. Additionally, whether pacemaker insertion alters the clinical outcomes needs further exploration.

The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotype and cervical neoplasia in women older than 64 years, who are outside the age demographic of cervical cancer screening in China, has been under-researched. This study conducts a retrospective analysis of women from a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, with the aim to offer valuable insights for cervical cancer prevention and control in elderly women. The study incorporated 876 women, all aged 64 and above. ⋯ In conclusion, the burden of HPV infection is significant among women over 64 years in Guangzhou. Re-evaluation of cervical cancer screening strategies for women after the age of 64 is imperative. Moreover, the HPV 16/18/52/58 genotype model could serve as an alternative triage approach to identify histological CIN2+ among elderly women with HPV-positive/NILM status.

With the decline of global fertility, drug therapeutic of ectopic pregnancy is of great significance. Lithospermum erythrorhizon is using for embryo killing as herbal medicine. Shikonin is the critical nucleus of Lithospermum erythrorhizon; however, the mechanism is still unclear. The study aimed to explore the mechanism of shikonin against ectopic pregnancy. ⋯ Our results suggest that shikonin activates CTSB to induce NLRP3-dependent pyroptosis in HTR-8/SVneo cells. This study has important clinical implications for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy.
