[Quality of life in children with obstructive sleeping disorder after tonsillectomy, tonsillotomy or adenotomy].
To study the effectiveness of adenotomy (AT), adenotonsillectomy (ATE) and adenotonsillotomy (ATT) with respect to the quality of life improvement in children with obstructive sleep disorders (OSD), OSA 18 survey and Brouillette score were used. ⋯ ATE and ATT have about the same effectiveness to improve life quality for children with OSD. Children after ATE or ATT have a comparable life quality as healthy children (Mann Whitney U-test; p approximately 0.15), while children who only received AT have a slightly lower life quality after the operation. In summary, ATT was recommend.

Review Case Reports[Management of traumatic tracheal injuries: presentation of a rare case and review of the literature].
Traumatic injuries of the tracheobronchial system are rare, but a big challenge for the clinician in early diagnosis and optimal management in the prevention of high fatality and morbidity. ⋯ The management of tracheobronchial injuries consists, depending on the severity, of emergency operation, in cases of tracheal rupture, haemorrhage or oesophageal injury, or of selective operation, in cases of minor injury and clinically stable patient. In the diagnostic pathways, the clinical examination is followed by radiologic imaging, angiography, computer tomography, and tracheo-bronchio-esophagoscopy. Particularly dangerous are total tear-offs of the trachea, tracheal contusions, tracheal or oesophageal fistula and postoperative stenosis of the trachea. The prognosis of the patient is largely dependent on an early diagnosis and good interdisciplinary management.

Case Reports[Retropharyngeal tendinitis--a rare differential diagnosis of retropharyngeal abscess].
Because of their similarity, clinical symptoms of a calcific retropharyngeal tendinitis can be misdiagnosed for a retropharyngeal abscess. We present two patients who were admitted for retropharyngeal abscess, however, careful examination revealed amorphous calcification anterior to C1-C2 in addition to prevertebral soft tissue swelling. Knowledge of the characteristic clinical symptoms and the pathognomonic imaging features is crucial to correctly diagnose the disease and to prevent unnecessary tests and treatment.

In spite of great success in research severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains the most frequent cause for morbidity and mortality in the age < 45 years. The primary lesion emerges at the moment of trauma. Due to several pathophysiological mechanisms secondary lesions occur that enlarge size of contusions significantly. ⋯ Additionally, ICP have to be measured and be treated corresponding to the algorithm of ICP treatment. Complementary, oxygen saturation of brain tissue (ptiO (2)), local cerebral blood flow (r-CBF) and cerebral metabolism (micro dialysis) can be measured. Just the combination of the single monitoring parameters gives evidence of the functional condition of the injured brain and relieved planning and performing of the appropriate therapy.
