To test a conceptual model of secondary health conditions, age, and function in persons aging with long-term physical disabilities. ⋯ These data support a biopsychosocial model of secondary health conditions in adults aging with physical disability and suggest a five-factor approach for conceptualizing secondary conditions and their impact. Results also emphasize the importance of age in symptom severity and impact.

We examined gender differences in the prevalence of disability and Disability-free Life Expectancy (DFLE) for Bangladeshi older adults. ⋯ Attention should be given to the elderly, with special care devoted to elderly women. The findings of the current study have important implications for risk of disability and the need for, and use of, long-term care services.

To determine the prevalence and relationship of frailty and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among residents of long-term care [nursing homes (NH) and assisted living (AL)] facilities. ⋯ Frail residents had lower HRQOL, suggesting that preventing frailty may lead to better HRQOL among residents of long-term care facilities.

This study examines sex differences in the association between migration and exposure to an urban environment and overweight, hypertension and diabetes in later life. ⋯ These findings underscore the need to consider heterogeneity in health by urban exposure and by sex.

To assess the validity and reliability of the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) in adults 65 to 74 years old, capable in all basic activities of daily living (ADL), in Quebec and Brazil. ⋯ This study provides evidence for the validity and reliability of SPPB in diverse populations.
