A burn is a trauma that breaks the skin barrier, causing local and systemic responses. Treatment is complex, multiprofessional and expensive. In addition to surgical treatment, topical dressings can be used to keep the wound moist, reduce the risk of infection and stimulate healing. Clinical studies show that topical use of fibroblast growth factors may accelerate healing. An assessment of the quality of the available evidence and its strength of recommendation is necessary. ⋯ This review gathered available evidence, between low and moderate recommendation strength for the use of FGF as a topical dressing. Further rigorous trials are needed to improve the strength of recommendation for topical use of FGF for burns.

Treadmill versus overground gait training in patients with lower limb burn injury: A matched control study.
Gait impairment is commonly seen in patients with a lower limb burn injury (LLBI). Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two different gait training modes on gait symmetry, functional mobility and kinesiophobia in patients with LLBI. ⋯ NCT03217526.

Keloid fibroblasts (KFs) undergo reprogramming of the metabolic phenotype from oxidative phosphorylation to the Warburg effect. However, more studies are needed to demonstrate whether there is a Warburg effect in KFs and to determine whether there is a similar phenomenon in other types of scars or in the proliferative stage of scars. In our study, the mRNA and protein expression of key glycolytic enzymes, glucose consumption and lactate production in KFs, normal skin fibroblasts (NFs), atrophic scar fibroblasts (ASFs), proliferative stage scar fibroblasts (PSSFs), and hypertrophic scar fibroblasts (HSFs) were detected. ⋯ In conclusion, the Warburg effect in KFs is a feature different from ASFs, PSSFs, or HSFs. Keloids are essentially different from other types of scars in terms of energy metabolism. This characteristic of KFs could provide new hope for the early diagnosis and treatment of keloids.

The aim of this study was to assess the development of burn scar contractures and their impact on joint function, disability and quality of life in a low-income country. ⋯ The prevalence of burn scar contractures was high in a low-income country. The joints with burn scar contracture were frequently limited in function. Patients who developed a contracture reported significantly more disability and lower QoL. To limit the development of burn scar contractures, timely access to safe burn care should be improved in low-income countries.
