To evaluate the impact of the implementation of a best practice infection prevention and control bundle on healthcare associated burn wound infections in a paediatric burns unit. ⋯ The implementation of an infection prevention and control bundle was effective in reducing healthcare associated burn wound infections, pneumonia and sepsis within our paediatric burns unit. Urinary tract infections remain a challenge for future improvement.

Extensive burns is one of the most common severe injuries, with a high annual death rate. Previous studies showed that the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a prognostic factor for some inflammatory diseases. However, until now, no study has evaluated the clinical prognostic value of NLR in extensively burned patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of NLR in this medical condition to provide clinical guidance. ⋯ NLR continuously decreased in the first 3 days of hospitalization. Admission NLR above 14 is associated with a decreased survival in patients with extensive burns. These findings demonstrate that NLR has prognostic value in these patients.

Efficacy and safety of nano-silver dressings combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor for deep second-degree burns: A meta-analysis.
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to assess the efficacy and safety of nano-silver dressing combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor for deep second-degree burns. ⋯ This comprehensive meta-analysis of the available evidence suggest that the use of nano-silver dressing combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor results in shorter duration of wound healing, reduced wound bacterial positive rates and adverse reactions rate, and improved wound healing rates.
