Second-degree burns with six etiologies treated with autologous noncultured cell-spray grafting.
Partial and deep partial-thickness burn wounds present a difficult diagnosis and prognosis that makes the planning for a conservative treatment versus mesh grafting problematic. A non-invasive treatment strategy avoiding mesh grafting is often chosen by practitioners based on their clinical and empirical evidence. However, a delayed re-epithelialization after conservative treatment may extend the patient's hospitalization period, increase the risk of infection, and lead to poor functional and aesthetic outcome. ⋯ The treatment results with autologous non-cultured cells, support rapid, uncomplicated re-epithelialization with aesthetically and functionally satisfying outcomes. Hospital stays averaged 7.6±1.6 days. Early autologous cell-spray grafting does not preclude or prevent simultaneous or subsequent traditional mesh autografting when indicated on defined areas of full-thickness injury.

The objective of this study was to evaluate (1) the effect of 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR) application on TNF-α expression in RAW264.7 cells and (2) the effect of 4HR ointment on burn wound healing in a rat burn wound model. ⋯ 4HR reduced TNF-α expression in RAW264.7 cells and in the burn wounds of rats. Burn wounds dressed with ointment containing 4HR also exhibited rapid epithelization and collagen regeneration.

San Juan (Summer Solstice) is an annual festival celebrated in many parts of Spain on June 24 by lighting bonfires on beaches and in open air. The aim of this study is to analyse the patient profile of those sustaining burns the night before San Juan. ⋯ The results of this study can guide prevention campaigns during these festivities in the future.

To describe patterns in thermal injury incidence and hospitalisations by age, gender, calendar year and socioeconomic status among 0-4 year olds in England for the period 1998-2013. ⋯ Incidence of all thermal injuries and those hospitalised for ≥72h reduced over time. Steep socioeconomic gradients support continued targeting of preventative interventions to those living in the most deprived areas.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of parenteral glutamine(GLN) supplementation combined with enteral nutrition (EN) on heat shock protein 90(Hsp90) expression, apoptosis of lymphoid organs and circulating lymphocytes, immunological function and survival in severely burned rats. ⋯ The results of this study show that parenteral GLN supplementation combined with EN may increase the GLN concentrations of plasma and tissues, up-regulate the expression of Hsp90, attenuate apoptosis in lymphoid organ and circulating lymphocyte, enhance the immunological function and improve survival in severely burned rats. Clinically, therapeutic efforts at the modulation of the immune dysfunction may contribute to a favorable outcome in severely burned patients.
